iPad music app: album count incorrect/too large in artist view

Hello,

My problem isn't critical, but it is really annoying. My third generation iPad is showing incorrect album counts for artists under artist view in the Apple music app.

For example, I have just one Coldplay album (Viva La Vida) uploaded to my iPad, but the music app reads the following under the album/artwork in artist view: "10 songs, 15 albums".

I have turned the iPad on and off. I have done a hard reset (by holding home and power button down until iPad shuts off and then tirns on again). I have restored the iPad from a back up through iTunes. I have restored it to factory settings through iTunes and set it up as a new iPad. I have erased the iPad using the iPad "settings/general/reset/erase all contents and settings" option. I have synced the iPad with iTunes and utilized the music tab to replace the music on the iPad. I have uploaded the albums through the iTunes store. I have synced them from my computer.

NONE of these options have worked. They all result in incorrect album counts.

This seems to be a problem which surfaced after I upgraded to iOS6, but I am not sure if that is what caused the issue.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bottom line, this is sloppy programming by Apple and I'm shocked that it hasn't been addressed yet or even acknowledged by Apple. I could fix it myself, but what's the point if the counts are being constantly changed. They need to fix the source code!

While I appreciate Apple's commitment to improving things, there have been way too many bugs along the way as a result of poor testing and rush to release.

So we get finally get iTunes 11, but still no fix for this issue. Great... New interface, same issues and a few new ones to boot. If iT11 wasn't ready, they should have delayed it indefinitely until they got their act together.

I am getting this same issue on my iPad, I have cleared my iTunes library and started fresh, adding one album at a time and am still getting the same issue.

I had 4 albums for one artist, which I had saved to a tempory folder. All songs were matched files that iTunes eventually matched, after insisting on only matching 50% of the songs in each album and uploading the other 50% - I got round this after about 15 attempts of ripping the CDs and inputting the CD info exactly as it appears on the iTunes store, and this caused me the iPad album count glitch that MacMan1963 explains in an earlier post.

So I clear my library, then add each of the four albums for the same artist into iTunes one-by-one and get iTunes to match them. The fourth album I added to the library decided to upload half the songs (even though when you hit 'Get info' it shows the file kind as 'Matched AAC audio file') so I removed the album from iTunes, updated iTunes Match and checked my iPad. It still says I have four albums for that artist. I can remove all the albums for this artist, update iTunes Match so it knows nothing is there, then add one back in and it will still say four Albums.

Infuriating. I have a Genius appointment booked for tomorrow so I'll see what they say.

Hi all, this also happened to me

you can try this to resolve the issue :

1. Download iExplorer

2. Choose Home from iExplorer to access your ipad File system

3. Go to This Folder iTunes_Control\iTunes

4. Find this file "MediaLibrary.sqlitedb" and rename to "MediaLibrary.sqlitedb.backup" or whatever

or you can delete that file

5. disconnect your ipad from itunes and restart the ipad

6. after restart connect to itunes again and it will sync all your music again. The album count will get fixed.

This is work to me, hope work for all of you too. Cheers 🙂
