Apple TV 3 won't play Hulu Shows

I've had the same issues. I've actually found that I can watch Apple TV movie rentals thru Ethernet only and Hulu plus thru wifi only. So if I'm watching Hulu, I have to unplug the Ethernet and vice versa for movie rentals. Hope this helps until they give us an update. Pain in the but and makes me look like a retard to make this simple thing work like it should! Please fix apple!!!

I'm starting to believe that issues like this one and Windows iTunes running out of sockets (requiring a reset) are beginning to show a widespread quality control problem at Apple.

I love how my iPhone, iPods, AppleTV and iTunes all work together, but there are more and more issues that I have to work around nearly every time one of these things updates. My wife has told me to start considering a media center solution from other vendors because Apple's has become so unreliable.

I get that tesing software is hard, especially with a large test matrix like Apple must have, but if my organizaton shipped an update that forced Hulu to only work on the Wifi adapter, three things would happen:

We'd be horribly embarrassed

We'd release a fix for the issue within a week

We'd figure out where the holes in our test plan were, and work to fill them.

If my organization released as many faulty updates as Apple has in the past 18 months, someone would have lost their job by now.

This all said: I have a 2nd generation ATV that works over WiFi. I will see if it works wired later. I suspect this will be more testing than Apple has done on the matter.

Ditto, switching to wifi fixed my Hulu Plus issue. Unacceptable, Apple.

Check out this thread. Someone posted how to downgrade back to 5.0.2. It worked for me and I can finally use Hulu Plus over ethernet.

I've recently been consindering buying an Apple TV. Thanks for the info: looks like I better hold off until things get repiaired: I have no big desire to leave my wifi on all the time.

Glad someone posted this up. I couldn't figure out why HuluPlus wasn't working on our ATV, when all the other streaming services were. This is not the first time i've seen this problem with ethernet vs. wifi (particularly with software updates) causing problems.

I've always been a firm believer in thinking that hardwired connections are more reliable, but leave it to Apple to make something simple... complicated.

This is the kind of thing that someone who isn't tech saavy would struggle with for a long time (ie: my parents!) so i really hope they get this sorted out ASAP.

Long story short: using ATV with ethernet is good for most everything, but for some reason Hulu Plus will only work over wifi. (Apple TV Software 5.1.1 (5433)

+1 for switching to Wi-Fi to fix Hulu Plus. Worked for us.
