Ditto. Started a few days ago as best as I can tell. Same thing happens on my iPhone which runs iOS 5 on both the Safari browser and the native YouTube app. Works fine over 3G. My iPad (wifi only) which runs iOS 6 can not play any YouTube videos on any browser. States "This video is currently unavailable" but the rest of the site works just fine (i.e. search, favorites, history). Checked WiFi settings on router, left HTML5 test, joined HTML5 test, cleared Safari cache, did factory resets on both router and iPad, no dice. Even tried a different router. No YouTube over WiFi on any iOS device. Vimeo works just fine though.
Me too. All YouTube videos spin on black screen as if loading forever.
I'm seeing this on my iPad (iOS5), 1 iPod Touch (iOS5), and 2 iPod Touches (iOS6).
They all worked fine a few days ago. The iOS6 devices just got upgraded today.
My MacBookPro and a family iMac, both on WIFI, have no problem with YouTube.
Just checked again on an iOS5 Touch, I get an 'Unknown Error' from the YouTube app and spinning black from Safari.
Checked my devices on multiple wifi networks including the local Starbucks. Same symptoms. Had friends check on their devices. Same symptoms. I even checked Best Buy using one of their in store display models. Same result.
Considering how quickly things went from working to not, I think Google is doing something to the HTML5 of the site that is currently affecting all devices that don't have Flash capability as a backup. The odd thing is that 3G still works...
This *****. I'm having the same issue.

So looking at some oooolllld posts from over the years, I tried one of the suggestions of adding "8.8.8.8" to my iOS device's DNS for the wifi connection. It now suddenly works, including pre-iOS 6 native YouTube app, m.youtube.com (Safari, Opera and Chrome), and the official iOS 6 YouTube app. It's a serious pain to do this for EVERY individual network I connect to, but it's at the least a temporary work around. See if it works for you all?
same thing happened to me this new you tube app kept freezing when ima trying to watch videos i cleared my history and cach, cleared my cookies and it still runs slow taking 10 mins to load my videos. but when i open it in safari it works fast but the quality *****...i blame iOS6 for THIS
Well it looks like all of our devices are working properly now (iPad, upgraded iTouch, iOS5 iTouch) without me doing anything.
My theory is it was some type of a DNS issue related to the whole Apple / Google YouTube app switchover. Perhaps the DNS for my ISP didn't get updated properly or as fast as most others.
This is literally driving me insane. I have tried all of the solutions that I've found on the discussion boards and still I get an "Unknown Error" everytime I try to use YouTube on my iPad over WiFi. It works fine on my Galaxy S3, fine on my iPhone 4s, fine on my old *** Motorola Droid X2, fine on all 3 of my PCs, fine on my MacBook Air. Basically, I want to chuck my iPad at the wall. If anyone knows how to fix this, please fill us in.
