Where did emoticons go in iphone 5
what happened to the globe next to the space bar to be able to add emoticons in a text?

you need to go to settings/general/keyboards and then add the emoji keyboard

You have to enable it in tge keyboard setting, just as you did before - it isn't on by default
Settings > General > International > Keyboards > Add new keyboard > Emoji
Go to settings. Go to general. Go to international. Go to keyboard. add Emoji as a keyboard. The globe will now sit in the bottom left corner of the message keyboard right next to the numbers button. Enjoy!
