How do you change your ring tone to music from your itunes?
iPhone 5, iOS 6
Step by Step Procedures to Create Free Ringtone on iTunes 10
1. Launch iTunes and pick a song you want to convert to ringtone
2. Right-click on the song and click “Get Info” to view the song properties
3. Select “Options” tab. Check and fill in the “Start time” and “Stop time” to extract the portion of song you want to create as ringtone. Ensure the length is not longer than 30 seconds. Otherwise, iTunes will not recognize it as a ringtone. When you are ready, click “OK” to confirm.
4. Again, right-click on the song and select “Create ACC Version”.
5. iTunes then automatically extracts the portion of song you have instructed in the previous step. The new song file is just 30-sec in length. That’s the song you work on from step 6 and onwards.
6. Next, right-click on the song and select “Show in Finder”. This will launch Finder and locate the song file you just created.
Note: For Windows user, you should choose “Show in Windows Explorer” instead.
7. Rename the file extension from “.m4a” to “.m4r”.
8. Next, go back to iTunes. Right-click on the song you have created and select “Delete”.
9. Click “Remove” to confirm the removal and then click “Keep File” when you’re prompted. This instructs iTunes to remove the song (the 30 sec version) from iTunes library and keep the actual file.
10. Go back to Finder and double-click on the ringtone file (.m4r) you have just renamed. The ringtone will automatically add it to iTunes’ ringtone library. You can now sync it to iPhone using iTunes. Enjoy your new ringtone!
i followed all of the steps and everything worked perfectly fine up until after i got the tones option to show on the left in itunes the ringtone i created did not show up into that library and it will not allow me to drag it over.
All the steps worked for me and I was able to sync the tunes to my phone. However once the created tunes were synced to my phone the tunes that I purchased off I Tunes dissapeared off my phone. Any idea how to get those back?
(on my phone when I got to settings>sounds>ringtones I see the ones I created but not the ones I purchased)
i did everthing u said and now i cant drag the song to the tones section of my library
help!!!!
What version of iTunes you have on computer? 11? I used to be able to create ringtones with the AAC trick before. But when iTunes was upgraded to version 11, no more. Also, "third party" like Mxyer, don't work either. I had to download ringtone maker from APP Store. Now can go 40 seconds, but there are choices to choose from.😐
yes i do have an 11 i tunes version but i'm not having any touble in creating the aac file i now have the 2 file (the original one and the 30 secs one ) but i just cant drag the 30secs one to the tone section in my library ..plzz help
Drag the 30 sec version to your desktop, rename the extention to .m4r and then drag it to Tones section (on sidebar) of iTunes. Now you can select the ringtone in the Tones tab of iPhone syncing page in iTunes, and sync it to your iPhone.
That’s what I’m talking about.... it cant be dragged from the desktop ,folder or even the music tab in the library to the tone tab (I just find a red circle shows up instead of the mouse pointer when I drag anything to it )
What happens if you double click the .m4r file on your desktop?
Make sure that your iTunes it set to Sync All Tones not Selected Tones..
This helped me - hopefully helps others....
it plays in itunes ..btw when i drag the file from my desktop it can be draged but to the music tab not the tone but when i drag it from music into tones tab itt shows this this black circle .

thank u soo much man ..i totally missed a steo (how stupid am i ) ..ur my favourite guy right now
Glad I helped
OK, this is the first thing I have HATED about my iPhone5. After paying for a ringtone, why do I have to read 7 screens of info to figure out how to make it into a ringtone? The first set didn't work, and yes, I was once a COBOL programmer (OK, revealing my age), but this is totally ridiculous. Once you pay, the ringtone should be automatic, esp when you pay for a ringtone. Very dissatisfied with this right now. Will go back to the stupid ringtones that came with my iPhone and not pay any more $$ until I can get to the Apple store and see if they can simplify this.
Using iTunes 11.0.2.26, I select the song, enter the 30-second start and end times, click OK, right click to create the AAC file and it gives me an error that tells me it can't convert a protected file to another format. However, when I check the song's info, it is an AAC file, so I don't understand how to get past this. Is this because I'm selecting a song that I imported to iTunes from a CD?
