iOS 6: Music playback issues?

After upgrading to ios 6 I've found an extremely annoying problem regarding music playback. iOS 6 doesn't seem to remember where you last paused a playlist, album, etc... it always starts back at the last place you originally started it.

For example:

I have an album with 12 songs. I start it on track 4, listen to a few songs on the way to work. Pull the headphone cord once I arrive and Music pauses as expected. When I return to the car for the drive back home, instead of resuming playback where I left off, it starts back at track 4 again.

Another example:

Let's say I want to listen to an artist, so I go to "All Songs" and just hit shuffle so it plays randomly. I listen to a few tracks here and there, skip a few, all is good. Just as with albums, when I stop playback and resume later it will always return back to the first song played, and play then back in the same order again.

Am I missing a setting or something? I searched the settings app may times and can't find anything even close. Does it have anything to do with me pausing the player by removing the headphone cord? Could it be some app I am using between pauses?

Never had issues with ios 5, so this is defenitely software related. iOS 5 used to remember where I last played music over days -- even if I were to watch videos on the iPhone or listen to Pandora between music playback.

I noticed the same problem since upgrading to iOS6 on my 4S. I have hundreds of songs onboard and it keeps jumping back a seemingly random spot. I'm betting they aren't correctly saving some state in the Music app, and when it gets paged out for other activity (or just to save power) it reverts to the last known spot.

Has anyone reported the issue?

Has anyone reported the issue?

Frankly, I was thinking that by clicking on "I have this question too" on the original problem report, I would be getting Apple's attention. Where else should this be brought up?

For what it's worth, I wasn't too successful with my own workaround; sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, and then sometimes I don't get the problem even when I expect it. In fact, I almost thought this had been fixed silently, until it hit me again yesterday evening.

Hey Apple, I'm putting off upgrading to the iPhone 5 64GB until this gets fixed. I have 1,400+ ALBUMS plus podcasts that I have updated through playlists with automatic updating based on when the track was last listened to, so having the memory in the iPhone basically forget the 2 albums I listened to yesterday keeps them from being rotated off my phone and new albums being put on. I would love to double my space but the iPod feature of the iPhone is half of its usefulness to me. If its not working right, than why upgrade?

THis issue is really hacking me off- has no-one got a solution or is it just a case of building awareness for Apple to take action.

Audiobooks is my main issue - will not start from where you left off. Faced with annoying search to find my place.

A Bookmark if nothing else would be good.

This is definitely a change since IOS6. Music and audiobooks would return to your stop point as long as you left the Music app running.

So, so basic - makes you wonder what Apple do with their test scripts before every OS release.

"Not a lot" by the evidence of this issue.

I've encountered the same bug, and it drives me crazy, too. Thanks to the poor state of Apple's current Podcast app, I listen to Podcasts in Music -- and as others have noted it's maddening to be constantly losing my place in a two-hour podcast every time I switch apps.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, Apple does NOT monitor these forums. They are solely for users to offer each other support. (At least, that's the official line. I truly hope Apple monitors them so they'll know about the issues that are driving us users crazy-- but there's no proof that they do.)

So, instead of adding a reply to this thread, please go to the following link and tell Apple about it directly. I think (I hope!) it makes it much more likely that Apple will fix it.

Well, the plau, pause, play trick only works the first time. If you come back to resume playing again and do the pause, play, pause it will not remember where you left off.

I also tried letting my phone completely die, no help.

I submitted feedback using the form Jacob linked to, let's hope this goes somewhere. I've tried everything aside from wiping the phone and doing a clean reload.

The first thing I tried when I discovered the problem was a hard reset/restore. Don't waste your time! It didn't help for this particular issue, unfortunately.

I also tried letting my phone die completely and recharging, that was no help.

Is anyone else having a random shuffle issue? It doesn't happen often (maybe once every 10-12 times I use my music player). But I listen to audiobooks which is much more obvious. I will have it plugged in using the aux cable in my car, and then it will randomly decide to put itself on shuffle while in the middle of a track. It makes a funny bleeping noise and then jumps to a random track on the audiobook (which I have as a playlist in my music player).

silverhearts11: The iPhone has a "Shake to Shuffle" feature, where you can shake your phone to randomly select another track. For some reason, it is turned on as a default feature, even though I suspect most people don't use it. So when your car goes over a bump or otherwise shakes your phone, it'll randomly switch tracks.

Try going to Settings > Music and turning off "Shake to Shuffle."

Oh you are not the only one. The ios 6 upgrade I did to my iPhone 4S totally screwed up the iPOD app. They broke it up into a podcast app (which works perfect) and a music app (which they totally FCKED up). Now my head set push button doesn't work with the Music app. I start by listening to podcasts then run the music app, make my music selection and start playing the music. I head out for my walk listening to my music and try to pause the music with the head set push button and nothing happens. I try and press the head set push button twice to advance the track and that does nothing either.

How could Apple take an app that most people probably use all the time and release an update that breaks it. Even more how can they be taking o FCKING long to fix it?!
