iOS 6: Music playback issues?

This solution doesn't work because I never open my music app. I mainly use it from the Homescreen by double-clicking home or via Bluetooth. So I never have to open the app to kill it. And it's still restarting.

The only thing the remember song position setting does for me is if I am skipping from song to song when I go back to the previous song it starts where I skipped forward from and not the beginning of the song... I changed that back to no as that is only adding to the annoyance.

Finding a way to keep the app in memory regardless of battery level or number of apps open is the key I believe. When Apple programmers figure that out we may see it resolved... until then I will just have to let my OCD get the best of me when I hit that repeat wall 😠

I have some news, unfortunately nothing positive from Apple, but I have a workaround that, so far has worked 100%.

My normal routine is that when I go to bed I switch my phone off. In the morning it goes on, I listen to music on the way to work, then again on the way home. Then when I go to bed the phone goes off and so on.

What I have been doing is the following:

In the morning, I purposely open the Music App, this loads it into memory and gives me the chance to check track number.

I listen to my playlist on the commute to and from work, then before I switch the phone off, I shutdown the app from Memory, checking the track number first. Then the phone goes off.

Repeating the process the next day.

Currently I am up to track 210 out of 833 without it skipping back once, so the trick seems that you open and close the app when you want to listen to music. Admittedly my phone doesn't get a great deal of use while I am working so not sure if having alot of apps open will impact it.

I guess give it a go and see if it works for all of you.

So I read through as much of this as I could handle but after my 150th "me too" I just had to reply... There is this many people confirmed with the same issue & no fix? Insane, it can't be that difficult to put it back to the way it once was...

I may be celebrating too early, but it looks like ios 6.1 has fixed this issue!! I've been wary about updates since 6.0, but I haven't been able to get my ipod touch to forget where it was in a playlist since this update.

Wow, I don't get it. The new music player and lock screen player have been stable for me for the last 2 days.

I had a fail safe way to get the music player error out on me. If I played music in a playlist, then bounced around in the video app or Pandora, shut down those apps, and returned to the lock screen, the player would start at either song 1 of the playlist or worse, song 1 of my entire library. Deep sleep (hours of inactivity) or restarts of the ipod would also have the same effect. This never happened in ios 5 but was consistent through 6.0 and 6.0.1. If 6.1 didn't work, I was going to downgrade back to 5.x.

Yeah, still not working for my iPod after the update.

Well based on the responses so far, seems that 6.1 has resolved the iPhone issues but left the iPod users still without a solution.

I have been on 6.1 since it was released and thus far it has not shifted me around on my playback, each time I have returned to the last song playing. That's the good news.

The bad for me is that the music app still does not load into memory, but despite this my playback is still ok, also the volume preset still ignores the setting of maximum when I fire the music app up.

So in my opinion they have only got 50% of the way to sorting the issues out.

I also see that there are battery problems with 6.1, let's hope that doesn't come my way, perhaps the music app not loading into memory is just sucking up all the battery!!

So for the sake of iPod users and the little annoyances I still have, let's hope they get their act together!

Hi! I recently upgrades from the 4S to the iPhone 5 and my problem is quite similar, if i am listening to a particular albumn in the morning and want to continue (I have always listened to music in random mode) in the evening, the iphone forgets where I left off and starts the albumn right from the beginning.....this does not happen if the time span is short. i.e. if I pick up the iphone to listen to the music in 10-15 minutes! So seems like its memory is short lived....wierd as it may sound but its true!! Apple kindly fix this!!!

What can I say, on mine it is fixed with 6.1, haven't had one day where it hasn't gone back to the last track, still have the other issues, but the playback is working fine. I even updated all my tracks to remove the remember last position and it still worked fine on playback.

One thing I did do was removed all music on IP5 by disabling the music sync, then created a new playlist and reactivated the music sync. Maybe that will do the trick?

Other than that all I did was upgrade to 6.1

Yep, seems to be fixed for me, too. Ran the battery down to 9% in a meeting, used multiple apps, and it still remembered where it was when I went to listen to music on the way home. I guess I should note this is with bluetooth in the car, so YMMV with a headset.

What's funny is today my wife asked if I had loaded new music on my phone... "nope, it's just finally not going back to the same spot in the playlist every day!"

With the google map app available I'd say it's finally safe to upgrade to 6.1 and enjoy having the bluetooth on/off toggle a layer higher in the settings :-)

Just to clarify as this issue has been maddening...

So you installed the 6.1 update from the past week-ish and it sounds like you're saying that each you get back into your car, your iPhone is playing a new random song and not reverting back to same song.

This would be outstanding news because every time I've been getting in the car I keep hearing the exact same song that I heard when I previously got out of the car. I am so sick of that song 😠

What every normal human being wants with shuffle all songs is to hear a new song from their iPhone each time they get into the car 😀

So, if the latest IOS update solves this issue, I cannot wait to install it tonight! I just wanted to make sure I understand your last post correctly.
