Glad to know my husband and I are not the only people with this same annoying problem. I get extremely tired of having to find my place again daily with my playlist or audiobooks! If I would have known that the newest iOS 6 update would completely change my playback ability on my 4s, I would have thought twice about updating! Before the update, I looked forward to using my phone's music app during my commute. Now it's just a hassle, wasting my time trying to figure out where I left off. I hope Apple fixes this problem soon or I might have to consider switching to a different phone. I am due for an upgrade!

I've held off on updating to IOS 6; I'm still at 5.1.1.

I'm having this problem.  I'll be listening to an album at work, shut off the player to go to another app or a call.  When I go back to the player, it has returned to the beginning of that album.

I think this is interesting because I've only noticed the problem in the past couple weeks (since about the time iOS 6 was released) but I didn't actually get the update yet.  Figure that out.

So far I haven't found a work around and it's very annoying.

My 4S on Ios 6.0.1. and I will be playing through an album.  If I pull the headphones or answer a phone call then resume playing it will start again at track 1.  It does this a lot.  Music play back can be jumpy and garbled if I have to pause the music often.  It takes a little while to settled down, usually a few pauses and moving forward and back on tracks to get it to play properly.

Also I have noticed that with ios 6, when I ask Siri to play a song, it will play the song then continue on with the album after that song.  In ios 5, Siri would only play the one song I asked to play then stop the music after that track.

Exactly the same issues with the resetting of a playlist after pausing the music player after upgrading to IOS 6. I noticed that the problem of the IOS 5 volume soundcheck had been resolved, only to be replaced with this problem. Very annoying. Please sort it out.

Having the same issue with the iphone 4. I like to shuffle through my songs (have A LOT of them), so it's very annoying to come back to point A when I have already listened to a lot in between, and don't want to always be listening to the same thing. While it won't save the spot where you are in the song, I've found that at least going into the ipod app before putting the phone to sleep after my commute willsave what song you are at. Until they fix this, I hope this trick can work/help for everyone else having this issue.

I found that it's purely due to when the Music app gets removed from memory to save power.

If I leave my phone plugged in or in airplane mode with a full charge, it will remember its position all night. If the battery is down to 20%, it loses its place in a few minutes.

It's a clear violation of their own guidlines: SProgrammingGuide/StatePreservation/StatePreservation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/T P40007072-CH11-SW13

My 4S only does this if I have Siri on. If I turn Siri off I have no problems whatsoever.

What's even more annoying is that not only does it not remember where you left off, but the bar that you can use to control where you are in the song or audiobook is gone!  I have an audiobook file that is 7 hours long.  It starts over again each time and I cannot get back to the 3 hour mark.

PLEASE FIX.  Even if it doesn't remember where you were, please give us the progress bar so we can at least slide the player to where we want it to be.

My iPhone 4 running the 6.0.1 update just flat out forgets what was playing after only a few minutes of the player being paused.. I have to navigate to the podcast or whatever I was listenign to to get back to where or what I was listeing too.

Just a reminder that Apple does NOT read this forums. For everybody posting here and asking Apple to fix the bug-- your message is not getting through! Please go to and report the bug there. It's much more effective than just compaining about it here, where only your fellow frustrated iPhone users can read it.

Do you have any feedback from Apple support?

Has anyone found a solution to the problem of having songs play on shuffle and then stopping and have it start with the same first song I listened to?  I sent feedback to Apple but was hoping someone has found a solution.  Would it help to see an Apple specialist?  Or is this really a bug in the operating system?

This is the most annoying thing.... I usually walk with and listen to my iphone or workout to my iphone.  I am reconsidering this iphone 5 purchase.  One of the reasons I purchased the 5 with the larger space was to house my music and not carry both the iphone and the ipod.  I am back using my old ipod classic.  Carrying two devices is just unnecessary when you pay so much for the phone.
