iPhone 5 headphone volume too low

And here comes another disappointing update ios 6.1.4 which says fixes audio profiles

Which gave me hope that it could fix our audio problem

But it ends with nothing at all :-/

The same problem here (bought in Czech Republic, December 2012), IP5 is my first iphone so I cant compare to 4 or 4S but the volume level is extremely low. In silent room, when on cca 55%, its like 25% on my previous HTC phone. When listenting outside or in louder environment even 100% does not produce strong sound enough to be worth listening. What a shame Apple. Whats most striking that they just keep ignoring the problem.

Try this, sounds mad I know but worked for me this evening.

If your playing any music pause it. Go into settings and make sure Sound Check is off, EQ off, volume limit OFF and make sure max volume slider is right up.

Give that a go, for me it was turning off EQ which made a massive

Difference. When trying all the EQ presets they all reduced the volume !!!

EVEN I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I M REALLY FUSTRATED WITH IT . I TRIED USING THE EARPHONE WITH MY FRIENDS IPHONE 5 AND THE SOUND WAS JUSST MORE THAN THE SOUND IN MY IPHONE 5 , THOUGH I USED THE SAME EARPHONE TO TEST IT ....

Try different headphones. It may just be, that the volume is low on some headphones and high on others.

Rockeulven, has absolutely nailed this fix. Follow those steps for the phone, and you set!! Major difference is sound!

Well I think I have a definitive answer on this and I am getting a bit tired of seeing peoples “non fixes” regarding upping the volume of all music in tunes??? This is not a fix at all please read the below…

So what can I tell you, well it’s not good news I’m afraid, I went back into apple this time fully loaded with information and had my 4s with me to do tests and apple admitted yes there was definitely an issue with volume loss on the iPhone 5 compared to the 4/4s. This is my second Iph5, and after the in depth detail investigation and testing the job went off to the techs. I got a call a week later saying that “this is the expected behaviour of the iphone5” and in so many words… I have to live with it.

It seems that when this phone was redesigned to be faster cooler etc. the cirrus audio chip was also modified but seems to be lacking massively compared to the cirrus audio chip used in previous iPhones i.e. amplified sound/warmth etc..

So to conclude and to bring this message thread to an end as its going nowhere – there is no cure! its new hardware in the iPhone 5 that is not powerful enough to be able to play and power your headphones like the previous iPhone models! Am I angry…yes very as I am still carrying around my old iPhone 4 with all my music on including spotify as this is not just about iTunes its across everything outputting from the phone.

Apple if someone is reading this then why you just don’t say you made a mistake so people can stop hoping you’re going to release a patch to fix it and can just live with it or if they are audiophiles then buy a separate inline headphone amplifier.

Thoroughly disappointed, and to be honest the guys in the apple shops are not to blame as they don’t even seem to be aware of the issue or indeed they hide it very well which I suspect is the case.

Sorry ladies/gents as this is probably not what you want to hear, if i do purchase the next model i will be testing the volume output through the headphones against my iphone4s and if it not the same, well shudder at the thought of any alternative.

Hiya.. But this does t explain why so both singapore and hong kong models have volume equal too or close too 4s...

Unless diff hardware is used ...

Simon, very good question as there was not much clarity around if this was a world-wide issue, but seemed likely with the global response to this thread.

I suspect that there maybe a few anomalies in production concerning the hardware manufacturing choices and indeed the actual assembly on the production lines, and this is where I would like concise conformation from Apple that this is across the board or only on certain early or latter production batches.

It really is about time we got a sensible and business like response from apple?

These products are not cheap and are at the higher end if not the highest in the market sector, I would like to have some answers to my questions please as I am sure other apple users on here would.

Thank you so much for this. I had long suspected it was an unfixable problem so it's nice to at least have it finally confirmed. Still majorly disappointing though, I'm going to look in to the headphone amplifier you have suggested to see if it helps.

What makes it worse though is the fact apple have kelt quiet over it, I think it was an intentional change, if you think of the future there will be many people with hearing damage caused by listening to so much much at loud volumes for such a long time. I think apple has done some damage limitation here!

So the hearing of the Hong kongers and singaporias is less important than others ie UK ...

Maybe they have seen the backlash over the change an decided to improve the volume on the Hong Kong models? Bet it still says all the high volume warnings which it never used to.

Whatever the problem IMHO I think it is immoral of Apple not to reply or even try to justify that indeed there is a problem.

I took my 4s last year in may, its volume was fine but had battrey issues so i took it to apple store so guys in store replaced it with another 4s. The phone i got as replacement had very low volume. I thought there was a problem with phone so i took it back to apple store they had replaced it again but to my surprize this had the same problem very low volume. I understood that this was something with the new iphone4s phone. My friend has an i phone4s he took it in march 2012 and his pfone volume is fine. I am really dissapointed that we have to pay a high price to get the product from apple n then they are not doing anything about the problem. I have tried to play the same song in my car steroe from a samsung phone n the volume is as good as my first iphone 4s.

Not a solution but by putting the new headphones in the wrong ear i.e left in the right ear, and right in the left it seems quite a bit louder. Just a tip until theres a fix 😁
