iPhone 5 emails not coming through!

When my phone is connected to a wifi signal I can get my emails through "Mail" with no problem. Soon as I disconnect I get nothing. All I get when I try to refresh is "cannot get mail, no internet connection available". This is a lie because I have internet on the phone. I use Pandora, FB, and everything else just fine. Why is mail isolated here? I have Sprint if that matters.
