iphone 5 iOS 6 screen dimming problem

I just purchased my new 64GB iPhone 6 from the AT&T store. The phone works great, but I have one issue that pops up a few times a day. The screen suddently dims to where the icons are barely visible. Unlocking the screen or pressing any other button DOES NOT change the brightness. However, when I navigate to the Brightness setting and touch the brightness slider the screen brightness immediately pops back to life. I do not have the Auto-Brightness turned on.

I upgraded from a iPhone 4 with iOS 6 already loaded on it and I did not have this same issue on the iPhone 4...at least I don't recall having one. When I purchased my new iPhone 5 I simply did a restore from the iPhone 4 backup.

Anyone else having this same problem? If you did have the same problem and returned your phone for an exchange, did the new phone still have the same problems or not? Any help would be appreciated.

I've had this issue on my last few IPhones. The screen dims and will only light up when I touch the brightness slider.

It first cropped up on my 4S and I asked for a replacement. Another two 4S replacements later and it was still a problem. And now it's happening on my brand new 5. So I'd say it's a IOS 6 software bug that I hope Apple will address soon.

Same problem as everybody else has indicated above. I do have the OtterBox case, but I'm not sure that that's part of the problem. What's really frustrating is when you're using Google maps as your GPS device... while driving down the road, the map dims to almost black and you repeatedly have to reach for the phone to turn the brightness back up manually! Need a solution ASAP.

Well don't hold your breath for a solution to this problem. I called Apple and FINALLY talked to someone about this issue. They said no one had complained about having this problem. They thought it was something wrong with my phone and wanted me to reset to factory settings then restore it. OMG I was in the middle of work and could not take the time for that. I told them it was from the update as my IPad was doing the same thing, but the didn't seem to believe me. "(

Similar if not the same problem. I have a 16 gig 4S, running iOS 6.1.3. The screen will randomly dim a couple of times a day, usually when using Siri. I do not have to go back into the brightness settings to fix it, just have to cycle the power button on the top of the phone usually and the regular screen brightness that I have it set to will come back. Not a major annoyance yet because it does not happen frequently at all, but I had noticed it to the point where I went searching for solutions online. I have turned off the Siri "raise to speak" feature, will see if that helps. Can others confirm that this is directly related to Siri? If so I might try turning it off - don't really use her all that frequently anyway.

Thanks,

-John
