Why won't my macbook recognize my samsung galaxy s3?

Normally, when I plug a device into the USB drive of my computer, an icon pops up and recognizes it as a USB or memory drive of some sort. When i plug in my brand new Samsung Galaxy S3, it charges, but nothing else seems to happen. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions to fix it? I've mounted the phone as MTP or "Media Transfer Protocal", tried it with debuggin both on and off, but still cannot get it to recognize the phone.


Ultimately I'm trying to get my iTunes music onto my droid phone through an app called DoubleTwist. I'll try anything at this point. Any sugesstions would be appreciated.

I just bought the Note 3 and i'm connecting it to my Apple iMac desktop computer. i've downloaded the android file transfer but I just need to upload my photos from my phone to the computer. When I switch from MTP to the camera PTP the android icon disapears and it tells me to connect my android phone with a USB cable to the computer.... however it is already connected. Anybody know how to fix this? I never downloaded the verizon apps either so I know thats not an issue...

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and plugged it into my Apple Mac book pro. Then I swiped my phone from top to bottom. Screen shows Media device (MTP) and Camera(PTP).

Checked the box for camera and the photos automatically uploaded to my computer.

I'm new to Android devices -- just picked up a new, awkwardly named "Nook Glowlight Plus" e-reader (running Android 4.5.0.73). I could not get that b*stard recognized by my Mac (running OSX 10.11). Shame on me for being an early adopter; the device is so new, B&N's support forums haven't set up a dedicated sub-forum for the device yet!


I didn't expect your fix to work, as my first thought was, "Kies? I've not installed Kies." But, sure enough, I followed your directions and the device immediately showed up in Android File Transfer.
