Why do I keep getting 923-0 messages when trying to text?

I just got my new iphone 5 from Sprint. They transfered all of my info from my previous phone, mostly just my contacts to my new iphone. When trying to text certain people I keep getting this 923-0 error message "Message sent using invalid number of digits. Please resend using 10 digit number or valid short code. Msg 2114." They never receive my text and I keep getting this message. So I tried changing the numbers so they had the area code to fulfull the 10 digit number request, doesn't work. I've deleted the contact completely and entered them in again with area code included, doesn't work. I've gone back into the Sprint store and tried to get them to fix it and they said they can't and that I need to contact apple support. I can't figure out what is going on and why this seems so hard to fix something so easy as a number to text to. iphones to iphones work just fine with the imessage app, but not to other phones. This is driving me crazy. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Can you only send messages to only Iphones? That was my issue I went to settings >messages>send as SMS from when I purchased it this was turned off (factory setting perhaps). I had to turn it on.

Then delete the contact and all calls and or texts to and from the number it will confuse the system if you dont and revert back to the saved info even if you correct the info in the contact. send the message using only the numbers NOT as a contact. use 1 the area code and number like this 1(914) 965-5751. After you send the message you can save it as a working contact.

This worked for me hope it does the same for you :-)

I was having this same problem. I tried the solutions on this page and none worked. Finally I edited the contact info and clicked add phone. The phone went through a sequence of Home, Work, Iphone and then finally Mobile. I enterd the number under Mobile and the error message went away. In hindsight I remembered that this is pretty much the same error you get when you try to text to a land line phone number.

Yooo bro it's crazy I know its been a couple years and your question probably answered already but I did the network reset thing and made sure my Apple ID was legit again so I wasn't looking crazy. After about five minutes i go to my girls chat box option thingy that normally said send texts since my imessage F*d up now said send Imessage. Just to make sure I wasn't being had I sent a message and it came out blue instead of green I'm so happy :,)

None of these suggestions helped me with that 923.0 error message I kept getting. Ultimately the only thing that did help was a HARD reset. When I came back up I could not select the iCloud setup I had to setup like it was a NEW phone.

It was a NIGHTMARE which lasted 5+ days and who is to say it will not happen with another number in my Contacts listing. This episode was with only one specific number but I only text to a select few people in my listing. From what SPRINT said this is an ongoing issue with the iPhone and it became even more prevalent with the iOS 8 update.

After trying several things, the only thing that worked was to do a complete Factory Reset of the phone. Unfortuntely, you will not be able to restore any of your data/pictures.

I tried many of the suggestions, nothing worked and then I decided to try the Factory Reset and I am able to text the user without getting the Error 923-0.

Why do I keep getting 923-0 messages when trying to text?
