My iPhone 5 keeps freezing

From time to time my iPhone 5 freezes and the screen does not respond to me touching it, ie getting into apps, scrolling and typing MSG's which is the most frusturating. Only the home button works. I have to keep locking my screen and unlocking as this temporarily stops the freezing, but it comes back. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I bought my Iphone 5 at Apple in New York and i am staying in South Africa. i have the touch screen freezing issue for one week now. and i have not been able to use my phone since. Contacted my local Istore and i cannot get my phone replaced. This is a big waste of money, spending 700 USD on a product and not be able to use it for 2 months. This is the last time i buy any apple product.. Tried hardware reset , software reset.. nothing,, now am standing here with a dummy phone in my hand not able to pickup calls or read sms coz the F***cking Screen is Frozen.

This is the beginning of the end for Apple..

My iphone 5 iO6.1.2 only seems to freeze when making out going calls. i can not end the call or switch it off, nor do i get any response from any buttons. i have to wait for the call to end or time out before it will release it's freeze like state. i have tried all the usual resets and restores etc with no joy in resolving the issue, but i have noticed that plugging the charger in un-freezes it instanty!!! Also if the charger is plugged in, it doesn't freeze while making calls as it does when un plugged??? So there is obviously some sort of problem with the internal power soarce and the software using it as external power eliminates the fault?.....

This does seem like a hardware issue mixed in with the io6.1 onwards software. Come on Apple, you must have plenty of these phones that have been replaced to test and analize the faults and issue a rectification programme or software fix. I shall be visiting the Apple store very soon for a replacement

For the last two weeks I have been experiencing major "springboard" reboots and resets randomly on my iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.2. My experiences:

- phone restarts springboard 3 times in the time of a 10 minute phone call. Doesn't drop call. I just go dark on the line and then come back when the lock screen reappears.

- phone restarts randomly every 2-3 minutes while sitting idle but plugged into the apple provided charger and cable.

- phone restarts randomly during typing of text or email. Typed text is gone after springboard restarts. Always gone after reset, as one would expect.

What I have done...

On my own....

Hard reset of phone.

Restore from scratch and setup as a brand new iPhone reloading everything from the App Store and setting up mail accounts from settings.

Genius Bar...

Genius Bar trip 1 included an hour wait to be told to restore from scratch again. This included a firmware update by the "Genius" before I was sent on my way. Left with my iPhone being as if I had just unboxed it. I restored from scratch again. Not from a backup. Long process and frustrating.

Problem started back up almost immediately. Walked back into Genius Bar. Was told to let all the mail and contacts get downloaded returning the phone back to a normal use state and if the problem happens again, come back. Well..... It did.

Genius Bar trip 2. They replaced the iPhone with a brand new phone. I restored from scratch again.... Not from backup. It seemed ok for a bit then the problem started again. I had all the rash logs on my phone vs. sending automagically to Apple. Left on business trip.

Arrived in Houston on trip and immediately went to Genius Bar. Phone restarted or reset 4 times during the appt. showed Genius the crash logs. He replaced the phone again. That was Monday night. It seemed ok only restating a few times on Tuesday. Wednesday set new records for restarts.

I have no idea what to do. I can't take calls on the phone reliably at this point. Not to mention use the "Smart" phone features the phone garnered its market share from. I love Apple. I have all their stuff, but this is getting to be unacceptable. I need help. Badly.

I too am having issues with my phone freezing. I will press the home button and it will take about 30 seconds for my phone to respond. My phone doesn't ring every time I get a call (and this problem happened in several large cities so it is not a signal issue). Most of the time it doesn't alert me until five minutes later that I have texts. I will be playing on my phone and see that I have a notification on messages and go respond to the message. Two minutes later it notifies me of the old message. I had a 4 before this and it never did this. I am not bothering to try to get it replaced or rebooted because all of my friends have similar weird freezing issues like this. Apple's days are done -- just look at profit growth over the past four quarters. Google is taking their market share. I will be switching to the Android for my next phone.

Hi guys! I have a series of issues with my iphone 5 32gb. It hangs most of the time, for example if there is an upcoming msg and when im about to send or open other msgs it does hang for a couple of seconds. Then when I swipe to unlock it does hand then I need to press the sleep button to have it back. Its quite annoying coz it does hang/buffer from time to time. I dont knw if it is w/in a software, memory storage but I dont think so coz i havent used even 1/8 of it or maybe the phone has a virus or what. I really dont know, its only 2 months old. Can somebody help me with this?I really want to get rid of it. And also maybe someone knows how to calibrate coz the navigation response Ive noticed has a diff when I first bought it,right now its kinda slow or delayed.plsss! I badly need to get rid of this, I want to get the worth of the money Ive spent. Thanks guys!

I have the same problem only when I phone someone my phone comes up with call failed. It then dont allow you to call the person back and the whole screen freezes. I had a problem yesterday as I went to go onto my phone when I woke up, however, the screen went on a mad one and kept changing from one page to the other extremely quickly. The screen then stopped work and it took me ten minutes just trying to turn the phone off. The most annoying thing is that it only happens sometimes so when you take the phone into the apple shop it looks like your making it up. The battery on the phone also dies extremely quickly even after I have fully charged the phone.
Iv only had the phone two months and now I kind of wish I didnt buy the phone.

I just had that problem today on iphone5 after enabling two new keyboards in the general keyboard settings... emoticons and Tibetan alphabet.

I sent a message out with about 10 emoticons to try it out and afterwards a message group showed up from an entirely different contact (Facebook postings) and froze up.

Could not send any messages or access any other contacts to message afterwards, just a blank screen when I tried. Rebooted and still same problem. Disabled the Tibetan characters keyboard but kept emoticons. Still same problem.

Then I received an incoming text and problem has gone away! The incoming text unlocked things for me. Hope this doesn't happen again. I am thinking that in my case it might have something to do with Facebook notifications as this is the screen that kept popping up and not allowing me to leave.

I am going to disable my Facebook txt notifications and hope this doesn't happen again.

Never have had any other problems with my iphone5 and I love my phone! Had it since June and it's the best phone I have ever had. Holds a charge 3-4 times longer than my previous motorola droid!

the discussions on here are NOT monitored by Apple. They are here for the purpose of our peers who have had similar issues to help in resolution as are all the troubleshooting articles but if you still are unable to fix whatever the issue is, you will need to call apple tech support. Apple moitors their call logs and the feedback website regularly.(apple.com/feedback) That is how Apple knows what issues are common so they can work on fixes for them. Just so everyone knows. =) p.s. I wrk for Apple Tech Support so im not just running my mouth =)

Not sure if this will help for you but it worked for me - my touchscreen was randomly freezing where it would not take any input (made me think my phone had locked up) and was slowly making me lose my mind...In my opinion I think it may be a software glitch in IOS7, and here is what I found actually works (and it's so simple it makes me want to cry for everything else I have tried):

When your touchscreen freezes, simply activate your lock screen (top right button), then wake the phone and enter your passcode - voila - touchscreen works again. At least it does for me. It's still frustrating when my phone freezes every now and again but at least now I can get the touchscreen working again quickly.
