iphone 5 shuts off randomly - buttons not recognized to restart

I've had this happen twice so far on an iPhone 5 64gig model. The first time my phone just suddenly powered down - instantly - and it did not respond to any buttons as I tried to power it back up. I thought perhaps the battery was dead and plugged it in - later I checked the phone and it was on and fully charged. Then it happened again - with the battery at 97% I was actually on the speaker phone using my iPhone 5 (with a call to Verizon to setup autopay) and then the call suddenly ended. The iPhone was off - holding the power button did nothing, even trying the "hard reset" option with the home and power buttons did nothing. I then took the phone and plugged in the cable so that it would charge. The phone continued to not recognize any buttons until about 30 seconds after being connected to the charger at which point it booted itself up and showed my battery nearly full. I disconnected the phone and there sat my battery at 97% charge.

Has anyone else seen unexpected behavior like this? I figure I'll take it in to the Genius bar for a swap, but would prefer not to have to redownload all my apps and set all my passwords back up.

I have the same issue with my new iphone 5S 16GB. My iphone automatically turns off many times and can not connect to Itunes. Can anyone tell my how to fix this?

There are "how-to's" on this site under help section for solving the connection to itunes. I would suggest getting that sorted first. Then, if it keep restarting on you, go to the apple store and get it looked at. If it's a battery issue, they will fix it under warranty.

i had the same problem , and fixed it , follow this steps :

Go to Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnostics & Usage Data

you will say logs of crashes deatails , i found applecation making thigs problm it's from cydia calld Bootstrap , maybe you have a diffrent applicatn , and the reason i think this's app crashes some hardware like Memory ,,

updated on my battery issue from last year...

I was given a new phone Nov 4th…or so i thought it was a new phone…evidently it was a REFURBISHED phone…which the warranty ended in February

so now I have the SAME battery issue…no replacement for me

iPhone 52 just restarted to default settings on IOS 7.1.2 for no good reason during a call. Had to restore from iCloud cuz no good backup on iTunes. Set me back 3 months. Not so happy about the loss of apps, pictures etc etc.

Thus is life.

That will teach you to backup. We all have learned the hard way.

My phone has been diagnosed with a bad battery. Second time in two years. Guess what... I ain't replacing it. Going to get a new one...next Friday

is there any way to do it without going to an apple store? how much did u pay? im having the same problem. my ipod touch 5 freezes (buttons and all) and turns different colors and restarts. it also says ,at the top, it has wifi but i cant get on social media. it says no internet connection.
