I have a 32GB Iphone 5 as well.
This has only happened to me twice. Once, I was somewhere around 60% and I found my phone was off after leaving it in my room. Came to check on it and it was completely off. The power button wasnt working either. After about a minute, it finally turned on when I tried the power button again. Tonight, it shut off at 35%. I was trying to take a picture and the phone randomly "died".
Has anyone figured out a solution? I mean at this point, having only shut off on me two times isnt a BIG problem. But if it begins to occur more frequently then I'll be worried.
My iPhone 5 just started doing the same thing on Monday. Shuts off, even with a full battery, and has to be hard rebooted to get it back on. Tried doing a full restore, but it kept happening. I was hoping it would stop after downloading the new ios7, but it shut off again last night. Has anyone solved this mystery yet?
This is happening to my iP5 running iOS7 too. I just bought it used but newely replaced by a mint looking refurb from Apple under Applecare+. I'm worried that if it is indeed hardware related (not bad software) then I may have recieved someone else's "bad" phone.
It happens about twice a day. The phone becomes unresponsive then blacks out with no keys helping. Doing a hard-reset reboots it up fast but annoying.
My iPhone 5 does the same thing. I had a month ago this problem with an iPhone 4, it was turning off again and again even if used or in standby. I replaced the battery and solved the issue. I had an 4s when iOS7 was released and updated, and i had this shutting down issue, but only in the first day, than it was all ok.. Maybe it is a battery problem with the 5 and 5s too. I have a friend who repairs iPhones so i will borrow a new battery to see if this is it. The difference is that the iPhone 4 and 4s were showing empty battery for an minute and than turned again on, the iPhone 5 doesn't show that. I'll come with an reply after checking that.

I have sent my iphone 5 to where i have bought in guarantee coverage and they have noticed that it was hardware problem and can not be fixed. So they have replaced my prior iphone with brand new iphone 5.
Now i am happy with my new iphone 5, it has been working perfect even with ios 7 with many application in it
I suggest you all to take it to the place where you've bought and have it checked to figure out the problem.
Booting, rebooting again and again really bothering.
This procedure may not be possible for all of us. Mine for example is second-hand, unlocked with gevey sim.
I found the problem on mine.
It was allways turning off in my pocket, but only if it was upside-down. If I place it normally in my pocket it stays on. I turned now screen rotation off and it stays on even if upside-down in my pocket. So...issue detected, it's even the motion processor or the accelerometer (I guess)
Hi to all! i have some similar issues on my iphone 5, the battery drains quick, last only for about 10hrs, i did replaced the battery but still the same. Anyways, my issue is this, sometimes when i tried to charge my iphone and wait for at least 95%~99% of charging i usually plug it off but twice in a week after i charge my phone and quickly removing the cable to the port it turns off and never turn on again until i go to a cellphone shops. At the shop the they just use some booster to charge it and after split seconds it works. My problem is i need to pay at least $5 everytime i visit them. Could anyone help me about this issue? One more thing, the cellphone technician told me that the problem is hardware. Please help me solve this problem, anyone. Im thinking of buying a booster instead but i dont know what kind of booster would i buy, the technician also didn't tell me at all. Thanks in advance.
I'd just like to say that ahs70's post on Dec 1, 2013 at 1:17am on Pg. 9 worked for me as well: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5338609?start=120&tstart=0
If your iPhone's battery is acting up you need to determine if it's a software issue or a hardware/battery issue. To do that, after syncing your iPhone, erase/hard reset all data and settings from your iPhone to what it was from the factory as new. This can be found in Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings. Then test it out for a day or two. If it's still acting up then it's likely a hardware issue and you will need to get your battery replaced. If your warranty is done than check out this link to get a battery kit to replace your iPhone battery yourself: http://www.ifixit.com/Store/iPhone/iPhone-5-Replacement-Battery/IF118-001#produc tDescription
If your iPhone is now working properly after hard resetting it than it's most likely a software issue. This battery issue only started after upgrading to the new iOs7, so it is obviously related to the update not properly installing itself. What has worked for me and many others is to manually update to iOS 7.0.4 using the full downloaded version of the update which is about 1.32 Gigs.
But first you need to find out what model of iPhone you have, click here to determine if it's GSM or CDMA: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Then go here and scroll down to download the iOS 7.0.4 complete update for your device: http://www.downloadios7.org/download-ios-7-0-4-ipsw-file.html
Then scroll up on the download page and follow the instructions of updating your iPhone manually following the instructions below: "IPSW with iTunes"
And your done.
I only posted this because it was a very frustrating problem that no one really seemed to figure out a solution for.
I hope this helps.
My iphone 5, 32g keeps shuttng down and restarting, sometimes at night, it just shuts down and will not restart. when i turn it on the battery life remains where it was. i did a factory restore last night and the problem is still happening. i am out of factory warranty, does any body know if apple will replace with a new one?
I have the same problem with my iPhone 5c.
It just shuts down and restarts again on its own over and over. This morning I got up and its battery was 6%, but it had been charting all night, then I restarted it and its battery was 100%. During the day it kept turning off and restarting over and over and over. It doesn't stop.
I have it for 2 months and I don't know what to do! Can somebody tell me what to do?
