Mail not using the correct account to reply to email

I use Gmail to fetch email from my other email accounts. Prior to Mountain Lion, whenever I replied to an email, Mail would use the correct email account to reply to. That is to say, Gmail was fetching email from abc@mail.com, for example. When I click reply, the default account would be mail.com. But since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the default account will be Gmail.com.

Has anyone experienced this? How were you able to solve this, if at all?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

OK, there's where you run afoul of the "new rules." As soon as you move a message out of the IMAP folders (off of the servers) onto your Mac, Mail now seems to lose track of which account the message originated from. Whether that is intentional or just a byproduct of other design changes is unknown.

Remember, I'm not defending the "new rules," just trying to deduce them and describe them. Various posters have claimed that the account that Mail uses to reply to messages in On My Mac folders is the account specified for new messages (non-replies), the first account in the account list, preferentially an iCloud account, or something else (including unpredictable). I have not done enough testing to have my own theory.

Anyone heard anything new baout this topic?

I am using MAil with my business and private mail accounts. I have about 10 different Emailadresses configured. It is so annoying that Mail isn't working correctly anymore...

I always have to pick the correct reply-emailadress before I send out an email..

Also the in-mail search doesn't work anymore. I already re-indexed, restarted and what not. It didn't help.

Does anyone ofyou have this issue as well? and found a solution other than re-indexing?

For the moment I'm sorry to inform you that I didn't get any reply from anyone. I have contacted also the Apple support but they only told me to wait for the next update. It's almost two months I'm visiting all the discussion on internet but seems that nobody know what to do. Also for me it's a big problem because I'm working for different companies and i have to use the e-mail of each one, and sometime I make mistake and forget to change it. I hope one day someone Apple will do something.

I haven't been able to find a way to find a fix either -- message comes into my business account email address, I replay or forward that email, and the address is my @me.com address.....I think it must be an error in Mail 6.2. Replies peformed perfectly on earlier versions.

Q: How does one escalate this issue on Apple's upgrade/bug fix schedule??

I have talked on telephone for 40 minutes with the apple center, and this problem happened also to the person that was talking with me, and it seemed he didn't discover it before. He promised me to send an e-mail to the programmer to Apple and let me knowsomething very soon. It already passed 1 month !!!!! In any case for sure there is a bug in the MAIL program.

I finally talked with an Apple rep today (actually two reps) on this issue. Conclusion was that this issue -- failure to reply or forward to the email address that note was sent to -- is an issue with iCloud and not Mail.

MobileMe used to support, correct replies to a business account address; iCloud replies and forwards to those addresses defaults to the iCloud email address.

Have filed a case with Apple/iCloud on the issue.

No indication whether iCloud will addresses it. In the meantime, I will shift forwarding all my email to gmail (and then to Mail on my computers) to allow the correct business response, reducing my wasted time and errors.

I find it very unlikely that iCloud is involved, for several reasons. First, and most telling, this happens to me even when neither the correct nor the incorrect reply-from address is on iCloud. Second, even when iCloud is involved, it is unclear what iCloud could be doing to cause the problem or what it could do to correct it.

I am in the same boat. While we all seem to have theories as to how it is happening, the fact is replying to a message that got moved to a different folder, in my case ON MY MAC (so not IMAP server confusion possible), it used to work pre-10.8 and now it does not work. Someone wrote some code to break the behavior. It is time for someone to write some code to put back the right behavior.

I have contacted the apple support 2 months ago, and this problem happened also to the person talking with me. He promised me to contact immediately the Apple service in USA and to resolve this matter, he gave me also his personal e-mail and telephone. After some time I tried to write and call him, but no answer at all. This should not be the expected service for such company for these products that cost you more than other. We have only to wait for something ....................... I really hope that someone from Apple will read one day this community conversation.

This worked for me when i remembered too, but I deactivated the 'wrong' email and it was still using this as the Reply to. So the other party responded to the wrong email and I didn't recceive it because that account was deactivated.

I am shocked that it still uses the wrong email after it's been deactivated and even DELETED. I just tested this by deleteing the offfending account and a friend still go the wrong reply to.
