Why didn't I receive an Amber Alert?

A little known update in iOS 6 is amber alerts and other emergency alerts. An amber alert was posted in my area but I did not receive an alert. I have the alerts on and notifications on. Is there something else I need to check or have people been missing alerts? This is a big issue in my opinion.

The Amber Alert toggle is available on my iPhone 5 using iOS6 and I have it turned on.

I'm not sure why you didn't receive an Amber Alert because your iPhone has the new Goverment Alerts.

In reference to Allan not seeing one on his phone, here is what MacWorld just reported on 9/20/12:

"Some users also get new settings in the Notifications screen—at the bottom, grouped under Government Alerts—for enabling or disabling AMBER Alerts and Emergency Alerts. In our testing in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sprint and Verizon users see these settings, while AT&T users do not. However, the availability of these settings also appear to depend on your location: Responses to an informal poll of Twitter users indicate that Verizon users in some parts of the country get the settings, but those in other locations do not." I'm in the Minneapolis area too. I was driving my fiance to her class just outside of Saint Paul, MN, when her iPhone received the amber alert yesterday. However, mine did not. They are both configured the same.

I'm going to keep reading to see if I can figure out why one would receive the alert, and not the other.

Awesome feature by the way! I was on the look out for our entire drive on I-90.

**Update - In reviewing Sprints policy, I realized that I have a phone number for the Goodhue County area, while she has a phone number for the Dakota County area. That is why she received the amber alert, and I did not.

I live in the Mpls area, and have Sprint as my carrier but did not recieve the alert on my iPhone 4 runing iOS 6.1.2. I do not have the government notification feature on my phone. What gives?

My coworker on the other hand who also has Sprint did get the notification on her Galaxy phone. So clearly Sprint is supporting it in my area.

Why didn't I receive an Amber Alert?
