Iphone 5 Wifi keeps disconnecting whilst on lock.

I recently bought my iphone 5 and managed to hook it up to my router pretty easily, get good connection and internet speed but when ever I lock my iphone and put it in my pocket or on my desk for more than 30 seconds the wifi drops off. I then have to go back into settings and manually reconnect my iphone in order to use the wifi.

I have fiddled about with some of the settings and found that when i turn mobile data and 3g off this problem doesnt happen anymore which is odd. Further to this my family members also have iphone 5's yet their connections do not drop out whilst on hold.

Has anyone else had this problem or found a solution?

I don't believe that's the case. I've had mine swapped twice and the problem persisted. It was also exclusive to only one wifi connection.

I also discovered another fix if you're willing to spend around $30. I bought a netgear wifi signal booster. You plug it in and it creates a separate wifi network based off of your existing one. I connected to that network and finally it maintains the connection. Even if I leave and come back later, it will reconnect on its own. It's annoying to have to spend the extra money but was still worth it in my case.

I'm having this problem also, with a new iPhone 5, and I know it is not my router, becuase it happens both at home and at work using their WiFi. I have auto-lock to "never" -- but there is no way, that I know of, to close the screen -- so with auto lock to never, it stays connected, but uses battery because the screen is also on. Is there a way to close the screen without locking the phone on a 5?

My problem was still happening (and not due to a router, since it happens at connections away from home also). The Apple store says there is nothing wrong with it. However, they suggested I try it without the OtterBox case as that might be interfering with the antenna. I went to a gel case, cut out a piece of it around the antenna area, and that seems to have helped in most places. It still disconnects at work, but that might be their WiFi issue.

Hi,

I changed the router and it works. My problem was it kept disconecting every few minutes, especially when I was doing something that used more data, like netflix or youtube... I have first changed the phone, than when I realized I had o problems on other wi fi, I changed the router. I had a zyxel before. The problem is in some packages of data sent, that is set on the router.

I got my phone less than a month ago. It didn't have an issue with this until today, and it was with a network that has no password. Every time the screen locked, it would disconnect.

I switched "Data Roaming" to "On" instead of "Off" (I had been traveling and had turned it off recently) and the problem stopped, at least for now.

It seems like for each of us there may be a different solution, but for me, that worked.

hello guys!

stuck in the same problem too, have read many forums from different countries and haven't solved it.

I have 4s with 6.1.3 iOS.

The main thing I discovered - the phone is connected in different ways with different routers: wi-fi works at my job fine when the screen is locked, but it turns off when I'm home. And I guessed that maybe it is not iphone problem but problem with router settings.

At home I have a router D-Link Dir-651 and I just decided to try a different combination of its settings.

Here is the combination that made the wi-fi to work!

I changed the value of the "channel" to "auto" and "Wireless mode" from "802.11b \ r \ n" to just "802.11n".

And it works!

Hopefully, this method will help someone.
