My iphone 5 goes "no service".

When my iphone 5 goes out of network, "no service" shows. But the phone doesn't search for network, even if there is, untill I tell the phone to search for network. Why?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

How does repeating the fact that ios6.1 (which isn't available yet) help anyone right now? "Oh that's ok I've bought a really expensive phone that at some point soon I think may or may not work. I can't wait till it might start working soon. My new phone will go swell with my new hover boots. They haven't been invented yet but when they do soon it'll be great!!!"

Apple clearly have not yet acknowledged this problem to users. Any journalist without the backing of a small army would do wise to stay clear of apples lawyers when they attempt to damage the name by exposing this issue so good luck there. The only way this can be brought to the forefront (without lawyers) is if every single person suffering this problem takes their phone back to where it was purchased and demands full refund as they have been sold a product not fit for purpose.

I've read all post on the 10 pages of this thread yesterday and the day before.. So yes I read before posting !!

I didn't see anything, anywhere, on how to get iOS 6.1, probably because it is not available to everyone yet... Right ??

I did the software update on the iPhone and the only iOS available was the 6.0.2, which I did.

So let's hope Apple release the new iOS FAST !!

Mr.Curry...before you decide your Mr high and mighty and all knowing over the rest of us....it is a beta release. Not all of us have access to a beta release.

And from READING these posts, it would appear to me that most people are just looking for some sort of acknowledgment from Apple instead of here is a new phone and try a reset.

Exactly rymac69...

I told my user (the director) that a replacement won't solve the problem, but he ask me to contact Apple and do the replacement procedure.

Express mail 29$+tx + a hold of 700$ something on the credit card, which will be refund when the "old" iPhone is received at Apple.

If Apple support, on my third call, had told me that this issue will be fix with a new iOS version and that a replacement doesn't mean problem solve.... Fine.

Why waste some money(express mail) and our time for nothing!

I was merely stating, as I believe has already been stated in this thread, that iOS 6.1 beta seems to resolve the issue, likely due to new modem software version.

I was personally happy to know that a fix existed, I didn't rush to test iOS 6.1 as I had no need for the newer version, the chances of apple or any big company admitting a bug without press pressure is unlikely.

It's a shame the likely fix didn't make it to iOS 6.0.2 as my wife suffers from this bug too but doesn't want beta software on her phone.

Let's not shoot the messenger, I'm sure Neil's intentions are good. If 6.1 is working for him, them great for him. Now, for the rest of us.

No point in sending units for service, first christmas then new years. If the issue persists after jan 7th, I'll have mine exchanged just to show my aggrevation.

Just to make shure, how many of us are owners of 64 GB units? I litterally had to talk my provider into giving me the 64 GB model. They tried to sell me iCloud as a "way better alternative" with a 32 GB unit as campared to this model. Thought that this was only a $ issue, but two users already claimed 64 GB usage.
