My iphone 5 goes "no service".

When my iphone 5 goes out of network, "no service" shows. But the phone doesn't search for network, even if there is, untill I tell the phone to search for network. Why?

I got excited thinking that the iTunes update solved it. Sadly it does not.


Sorry for getting your hopes up people.


I can also add that I restored the my iPhone 5 in DFU mode (recovery mode)


Alas it still has the problem.


I feel like the worlds biggest mug. I'm paying £36 a month for a phone that isn't a phone. I have learned my lesson. I am going to return the phone and break contract on the grounds that the equipment I have been supplied with isn't fit for purpose.

I can't comment on what is in iOS 6.1, because nobody really knows or is allowed to disclose. All I know is after 3 months of issues using a £600 phone and it not even working properly as a phone, I was almost ready to consider the dark side (android).


I was reluctant to install the beta on my personal phone, but had to see if it resolved the problem after others mentioned it might. So good news as far as I am concerned, i hope it helps you guys when it is released ... Can't be that long now.


I am amazed that with so many people suffering this issue with basic phone behaviour and it has not got more publicity. Reading the forums it does seem very intermittent and effects different networks in different ways, plus if you are always in a good signal area then you wont see the problem. There is also an easy workaround, so lots have just got used to it and flicking airplane mode on/off brings service back in most cases. In my opinion, this is worse than the iPhone 4 grip of death, and iPhone 5 map issues.

Well, since we have the same carrier, I was just wondering if your phone is still working and if you have not encountered the issues again?


I found out that I'm loosing connectivity when I go into my garage and then cannot reconect, just like everyone else here.


I tried doing the factory reset, added apps (not through sync but manually in iTunes). Happy as a clam, the connectivity issue seemed to go away. Tried loosing connectivity and then watched it come back automatically 4 times. Then today, no service. I doubt that Tre has updated anything since last night. Further, today I got sent to the US iTunes Store and the US App Store when prompted for updates, obviously I could not download anything beeing that I am not in the US. Had to re-enable my Apple ID to move back to the correct store.


I find this behaviour strange. Wy would my iPhone think that I am in the US? Would this not mess up carrier-iPhone communication, thinking that I am in a different country then I actually am?


Has anyone actually managed to solve this issue, permanenty, and can confirm this? Either by replacing the phone or by doing whatever. I just want to know if I should move over to Samsung or hastle with my carrier and apple.

Try to send the logs to apple. This will help them:


Engineering has requested the following information in order to further investigate this issue:

- Please attach baseband logs:

--- Baseband Log Instructions ---

Please attach CSI and MA or CSI and DIAG (baseband) logs to the bug report, depending on which device you're using.

- If you have an iPhone 3GS or a first generation iPhone 4 (GSM only), please follow steps 1 and 2 below to enable logging:

1) Dial: *KOOL*CSI# (*5005*274#) and hit Dismiss button
2) Dial: *KOOL*MA# (*5005*62#) and then skip to step 3 below

Once this is done, proceed to step 3 below.

- If you have a second generation iPhone 4 (GSM or CDMA), an iPhone 4S or an iPhone 5, please follow steps 1 and 2 below to enable logging:

1) Dial: *KOOL*CSI# (*5005*274#) and hit Dismiss button
2) Dial: *KOOL*DIAG# (*5005*3424#) and hit Dismiss button

Once this is done, proceed to step 3 below.

3) Wait a few moments for the command to process.
4) Power off the device by holding down the power button and swiping to turn it off.
5) Power on the device again
6) At this point, CSI and MA or CSI and DIAG logging should be enabled, depending on which device you're using.

- When the issue occurs, follow the steps below to capture the logs:

1) Dial: *KOOL*STATE# (*5005*78283#)
2) Press "Reply" (big green button)
3) Enter a description of the problem
4) Press "Reply" (upper right corner)

* Note: The buffer to hold the logs is only 1.5 MB so, make sure to enable logging when you see the issue.

After an iTunes sync to your computer, csi and ma or diag baseband log files should appear in the following locations, depending on what operating system you're using:

OS X:

~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<your device's name here>/Baseband

Use Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) to view this folder and copy the files from there to your desktop like this (replace your device name here with the name of your device in the MobileDevice folder which is unique for each device):

cp -R ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<your device name here>/Baseband ~/Desktop

Windows 7 and Vista:

C:\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<device-name>\Baseband\
Note: The AppData folder is hidden by default. Choose Folder and Search Options from the Organize menu in the file browser window, then click the View tab and change the "Hidden files and folders" option to "Show hidden files and folders".

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<device-name>\Baseband\
Note: The Application Data folder is hidden by default. Choose Tools > Folder Options in the file browser window, then click the View tab and change the "Hidden files and folders" option to "Show hidden files and folders".

Please compress all of the files in the Baseband folder on your desktop into an archive and attach that file to the bug report.

--- Disabling Baseband Logging ---

To disable logging, replace the leading asterisk (*) with a pound character (#), like the example below, for each item you enabled:

- If you have an iPhone 3GS or a first generation iPhone 4 (GSM Only) follow steps 1 and 2 below to disable logging:

1) #5005*274# (#KOOL*CSI#)
2) #5005*62# (#KOOL*MA#)

- If you have a second generation iPhone 4 (GSM or CDMA), an iPhone 4S or an iPhone 5, follow steps 1 and 2 below to disable logging:

1) #5005*274# (#KOOL*CSI#)
2) #5005*3424# (#KOOL*DIAG#)

I have exactly the same issue. iPhone 5, iOS 6.01 Network - 3 in UK. Lose signal for a while and then phone gets stuck on 'No Service'. I have found that making a call also causes phone to quickly find network again - a quick call to own number is easier than airplane mode on and off. Still highly irritating and both Apple and 3 customer services have not been able to help.

My iphone 5 goes "no service".
