When my iphone 5 goes out of network, "no service" shows. But the phone doesn't search for network, even if there is, untill I tell the phone to search for network. Why?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

I told you guys a while ago that I would try to do a system reset via iTunes and luckily it would appear so far that it worked!

Yesterday I was out in the Swedish wilderness and went in and out of areas of reception and the iphone 5 connected to the network as soon as it appeared. No more disconnecting and not trying to reconnect. So the itunes reset (but first a backup of course ) is what I would suggest for whoever still has the problem.

What still bugs me though is that I cannot for the life of me figure out why this problem actually occurs? Software? Hardware? Three? Apple? Who is to blame? I don't know... Hopefully things will get better as soon as iOS 6.1 is out since Three claimed that Apple are about to fix it with a new firmware version.

Got exactly the same problem today, for the very first time since I got the iPhone 5. (4 days), and I'v read on other swedish forum about ppl who have the same problem.

What network supporter do you have? 3?

  • 2Sweden Level 1 Level 1

    Yes, the carrier is " 3 ".

  • Codstam Level 1 Level 1

Could the problem be linked to the carrier or is it a lack in the software?

  • katie248 Level 1 Level 1

im with 3 as well and i have the same problem!!

  • Oh-oh Level 1 Level 1

Also 3. Also the same problem. I had them give me a new sim but it didn't solve anything. It feels like I lose coverage and that the iPhone stops trying to reconnect. How is the coverage when you guys get no service? I'm asking because many times when I find my iPhone with no service after god knows how long I turn flight mode on and off then the coverage can actually be really good.

I don't know, it's just frustrating. I don't know if I should be angry at three or apple or both. All I know is that I'm paying big money for this and it has been going on since day one.

The coverage is 5 out of 5 on my iPhone.

I was checked my mail today and clicked on a link inside the e-mail.

My network dissapeared directly and for about 30 seconds it got " no services". The phone found the network within those 30 second. I'v run a "speed test" and it was really good.. - 16mb/sec

I just spoke to three's customer service. They know about it and they have actually sent phones back already to see if apple can find anything wrong with them. So they don't know just yet but I would think they will be able to say if they need to be repaired or not.

Has anyone had the same problem with other carriers? Also, what Swedish forums have discussed this particular issue?

  • Codstam Level 1 Level 1

Thats exactly my issue aswell. And I also uses flightmode to reconnect, and when I do that the coverage could be like five bars...

What did 3 say? That it's a software issue?

  • Oh-oh Level 1 Level 1

They don't know quite yet. They are waiting to see what apple says since they have already sent a couple of units back for repairs. I asked them if three's network could be too weak but they didn't think so. They said it could be a problem from production.

Although they agreed that it shouldn't have to be this way, we shouldn't have to go into flight mode and back to have our phones working. But they recommended me to see how it works out with the ones already at apple and I agree. It could be that three have bad SIM cards so I don't want to have to send my phone away in vain.

Now it even happened while I was asleep. So it cannot be a mechanical problem with the SIM or anything because I haven't moved the iphone a milimetre all night.

I'm doing a factory reset from iTunes now and if it doesn't solve it I'm going back to Three. I simply cannot be unreachable because of this. So unpredictable.

I must say that this problem occured even with my old iPhone 3GS.. not only with iPhone 5.

Hope that the problem residues on "3"

  • Oh-oh Level 1 Level 1

I don't know, how could it be Three's fault if it turns out that there is almost full covarage once I switch flight mode on and off.

Furthermore, if it really is Three's fault I have no problem witch switching carrier.

  • 2Sweden Level 1 Level 1

Pfff I'm afraid that the problem is on iPhone 5.

I took a trip by train. On one moment I got the " no service" alarm and the phone didn' tried to search further for the network.

I'm really ****** off on Apple.
