Hi I got a new iPhone 5 in October 2012 and Iām currently using IOS version 6.0.2. I was so excited to get the new iPhone as I had been using an older iPhone (3GS) but now I am so disappointed that I am experiencing issue.
Previously I was with T-Mobile but my new carrier is Verizon and ever since I got the new iPhone I have had voicemail (vm) messages that duplicate themselves. This can be verified when you check the time/date stamp; thus even without listening to them you can see them. I don't know precisely how or when they duplicate but I have noticed that they sometimes duplicate whenever I re-play a vm message. In other words if I listen to the same vm more than once then it duplicates. However the duplication/replication is sporadic, as some vmās duplicate and some donāt. I have had up to 8 duplicate vm messages of the original vm and it seems they can duplicate as long as the original vm is present.
I went to a Verizon store about this and to the Apple Genius Bar and no one could help me. I called Verizon IT support and they told me they would reprovision my phone and reset my voicemail. I said great and next thing you know, without any warning, all my vm messages on my phone were wiped out.
I went to the Genius Bar and they told me to do a restore but NOT to use restore with any BACK-UP! So then exactly how would I regain my data and info? So I did a restore to the iPhone via iTunes from computer back-up but that did not solve the problem either and Apple told me my back-up could have a bug!
Then Verizon offered to send me a new iPhone. I said Ok will it be a NEW iPhone or a reconditioned iPhone? I was told it would be a new iPhone but when I got it via FedEx it turned out to be a reconditioned iPhone. So I went back to Apple and they replaced my iPhone with a brand new iPhone. I thought great this will solve the problem...but within a week the problem began again.
I'm just so over trying to fix these things. My best advise for anyone experiencing this problem is to delete the vm ASAP so that it does not duplicate. It is NOT convenient. I like to listen to my vm's on my āhands-freeā mic in the car...but I can't dictate them while driving...so then I do have to play them again later if I need to take down info. So this is a seriously frustrating situation to live with and cost me countless hours.
Verizon and Apple both told me they had never heard of such a thing and I was the only one they had ever heard of having this problem...but obviously I am not the only one. This is just totally unacceptable. I hope someone figures this out...SOON! š š¢
Amendment: Today I called Apple support. Apple tech support claims this is not a software issue and that they have heard of it and it is definitely Verizon. Apple tech support phoned a Verizon manager and the Verizon Manager told me it was a known issue ticketed since Oct 11, 2012 but that it has been proven that it is NOT a Network issue and he blamed Apple. So 2-hours wasted and I am nowhere!
