    I am new user and I too have EXACT same problem on iphone 5 black version of the phone. It is running a latest authentic iOS 7.0.4 operating system and it's driving me nuts when call goes dead in the middle of talk.

    Also all the applications are closed and memory is freed up, still the same problem.

    I got my phone replaced by Apple. Looks like thats the only solution.

    My phone is doing this exact same thing now.  It started acting up a few days ago.  Slow....then spontaneous reboots...then it would just shut off for no apparent reason...then it would come up to the "Plug into iTunes" screen...eventually, it totally died and would only do a repeating attempt at rebooting.


    Apple logo...then the Apple logo fades...then phone goes black....then Apple logo appears again...repeat...repeat...


    Seems to me like bad internal flash memory?


    I have so many photos and videos that aren't backed up!  (**Feeling Stupid Now**)


    I guess I had too much confidence in my Apple hardware.  I won't make that mistake again.  I am really *hoping* that the Apple Store can at least help me recover my lost data.  Piece of crap hardware.   So frustrating.

    Just got back from apple store, same problem. The manager confirmed it's a hardware issue but I'm out of warranty by 100 days. She said it was rare but the girl next to me with her 5 had the same exact problem. Only option is buy a replacement for $279 plus tax or go through att. If I go through att no more iphone for me.


    I have an imac, mac book pro and am a die hard mac guy, don't know for how much longer. I was shocked when the manager confirmed hardware issue but after the 1 year what do you expect us to do about it?

    Hi everyone,


    Can I just say that I have had this happen to me and I have been to an Apple Store twice.


    The first time the guy said it might be an app that is making the phone restart, however after restoring the phone the problem kept on happening, more times in fact.


    I recently went back to the apple store and they gave me a new phone. Pretty much left the store, plugged in my phone to my computer to add all the contacts / music etc. and it has happened again, many times.


    Can I ask if everyone is backing up their phones with Itunes or Icloud? Maybe it is something on my computer that is causing the restart...? Having the phone changed has seemed not to do anything so must be some software problem...??

    The real test is to restore as a NEW DEVICE, not from a backup. If it keeps happening, it's a hardware problem. If it's solved, it is either one of your apps or some file corruption in your backup that's causing it.

    My iphone 5 just randomly shut off last night while I was checking my snapchat and then it wouldn't turn back on so I did the hold the home button and the power button  and the apple symbol came up but it keeps loading past the apple symbol then going to a black screen and then keeps repeating the same thing over and over a couple of times it's turned on but wouldn't let me swipe to unlock then it would just shut off again and repeat its self can anyone help I'm so confused?

    Yesterday at around 11 am, my iphone 5 began restarting itself.  However, it never goes to the main screen where I can access anything.   It is in a constant, screen, screen.  I tried connecting to itunes, but that was futile.   I went to Verizon, and of course...with no upgrade available...It appears I'm stuck without a phone for several months or pay full price because of some issue with the software.   I am a die-hard mac person.   Mac book pro, ipad, iphone...   However, at this point... I may switch to another type of phone.   I have had nothing but trouble with the iphone 5.  The first one was replaced after only a few months and now the replacement is ineffective.  Something needs to be done either by apple or the wireless phone carriers.  I, like most people, no longer have a home phone.  My phone NEEDS to be working.  If my contract is for 2 years with the phone carrier...then the phone should work for 2 years.  That is not an unreasonable expectation.   If it is warrentied for a year, then the contract should be for 1 year.  Apple needs to understand that by creating, this atmosphere where if you need a phone and are not eligible for an upgrade paying 500.00 for a new phone will only cause your clients to consider other options.


    My hope is that today when I go to the genius bar, they will either be able to fix the phone (based on what I'm reading on line...doubt that is going to happen) or provide me with a new phone free of charge.  If that doesn't happen...  my days with mac products are numbered...

    How do I do that when I can't get itunes to even acknowledge the device and I never have an opportunity to see the home screen?  It is literally going from white screen with black apple to black screen continuously.  I have tried the hard restart (top and home buttons simultaneously) but that doesn't help.  Thanks for responding...  Hopefully someone can help because neither apple nor verizon can...

    I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this issue.  In my opinion, this is a known/common hardware failure issue with the iPhone 5 platform.  I lost precious family pictures and videos earlier this year that hadn't been backed up to iCloud.  (I had run out of space and hadn't updated my account)  I tried EVERYTHING to get my phone to boot back up.  I bought multiple "recovery" tools and none of them were able to successfully get my phone to connect.  There was absolutely no way to get the phone to connect to iTunes...even in Recovery Mode.  In effect, it seemed like the internal flash memory was simply "dead". 


    I also took my phone to the Apple Store.  After the Genius Team worked on it for 30 minutes, they declared it "dead" and suggested that I get a new phone.  They told me there was no way to recover any data from the phone because the flash memory was dead.  This phone was in pristine physical condition with no drop or water damage.  I had it well protected in a quality case and it was only about 4 months old.


    I think your only option is to get a new phone.  (Hopefully still under warranty)

    I found that backing up to icloud helps as well... having it backed up to my itunes on my computer wasnt a good idea.


    So apple could not fix it, nor give you a new phone?

    I received a new phone because it was under warranty.  However, I lost all of my data.  Lots of family pictures and videos that were not backed up.  (my fault)
