Sorry. That's so incredibly vague that we couldn't even begin to give you any tips.
What are you trying to accomplish?
Sounds like you're in accounts instead of inboxes.
pushing e-mail from exchange server to iphone 5. the inbox shows the number of unread messages in the inbox. if there are rules set up on exchange for putting e-mails into folders, then the new e-mails are automatically filed in those folders. in outlook, there is an unread mail search folder which allows you to review all new mail. first question is there anyway to get the unread mail folder into the iphone mail? second issue is that if you set up VIP in the mail and that e-mail has an outlook/exchange rule, then it does not display in the VIP mail listing. if you remove the rule, then it appears. i
in mailboxes but this has to do with how the mail functions treats the incoming e-mail. it would be nice if there was one folder that contained nothing but unread mail
ideally, if the unread mail folder just was displayed that would be fine or if VIP mail displayed in both places - the assigned folder as well as the VIP mail list.
The "unread mail" folder in Outlook is not a real folder. It is a smart folder that exists only in Outlook. There is no way to duplicate that functionality on the phone.
Let me pitch in with a problem that I have, and it might clarify the original posters question.
In outlook (on PC or Mac) with an exchange server, you can set rules to place certain emails in certain folders. E.g if an email comes from Apple Support Communites, it goes into the Apple Folder within out look. Now unlike Mail.app, Outlook saves these rules to the server, so the email is NOT moved locally into the folder, it is done at the server level.
With mail on the iphone, any email that is in the Inbox will show an icon that states you have new email, however, if an email has been moved on the server to another folder (e.g Apple) then mail on the iPhone will NOT show a notification that this folder has new mail. In fact, you could have 100 new mails all in different folders and mail on iPhone will never indicate that you have new mail.
The only way to see if there is new mail, is to go into each folder manually, and then do a refresh on that folder in which case the mail gets picked up.
Many many corporations use Exchange server, and many of the employees have server side rules, i cannot for the life of me work out why mail on the iPhone is unable to identify when a folder has new mail.
Have you tried going into Settings, Mail, your Exchange account and changing what folders you want to push? I know for my Exchange account I only have it set to push the inbox. I haven't tested it, but I wonder if you set another folder to push, if mail is sent to that folder, would it result in a badge? Since notifications works on information being pushed to the application, in this case Mail, would it act the same as something being pushed to the inbox. Something that someone with rules might want to check.
Thanks for the reply Chris,
I am pretty sure i tried this before, but i currently don't push my mails as it drives me crazy when they come through at like 4am. I would have though doing a send/receive when opening mail should still be able to display a count on the folder name, which it does not (unless the folder is inbox).
finally figured the best way to address is to change all the rules to client rules and not server based rules. as long as your computer is not on, all mail will flow to the in box as this is what happens on the server. still cannot understand why apple cannot deal with the exchange rules as most businesses operate on exchange.
www.apple.com/feedback. Best way to get your voice heard in regards to changes.
So, have you figured out this issue? I have the same problem myself. I just had exchange installed and it took all of my folders set up in outlook and brought them to my iphone 5. However, it won't let me minimize them. I can deal with only letting the inbox push, but if anything goes to the junk mail or sent box, it is **** having to scroll all the way down hundreds of folders that won't minimize to get to "sent mail" or junk....
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I can't find answers anywhere.
Sincerely,
Kevin
the best solution that i found was to make all the rules client rules. as long as your pc was not turned on, then the rules would not execute and everything would show up in the inbox on the iphone. if your computer is on, then the rules would execute if Outlook is running. a real pain!
Hi All
I have been having this issue with one of my user in the company. I spent good 3 hours and finally figured it out. If you go to Settings > Mail, Contact, Calendars > Account (your email account you use on ipad / iphone) > Mail Folders to Push. Tick all the folders you want to get push notification for. All your unread emails should now be pushed to specified folders. It may take some time for all the unread emails to be pushed to the folders. So if you dont see them straight away dont worry just wait (depends how many unread emails you have) and it will be there later.
unfortunately apple doesnt have the option to select all folder by ticking once so you have to tick each folder one by one. And if you have 100+ folders then give your fingers a good message after completing the ticking. 🙂
hope this helps
