Can't uninstall iTunes on Windows XP

I am trying to uninstall iTunes and reinstall I get a message that says the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. My PC is not on a network. It can't find the installation package. I can't either. iTunes opens, but with an error message that says a newer version is available. Please uninstall and reinstall iTunes.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the User uploaded file "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)

(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.

(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I have iTunes working again. I have software that creates a restore point daily or before a change. I restored back 2 days, which was before the issue started. Then I followed the steps to remove iTunes and all components in the proper order. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925. Then I reinstalled iTunes. Working like a champ.

Thanks for the suggestion but I was too nervous to try it after everything I read about the damage the uninstalled can do. Microsoft strongly advises against using it.
