Exporting photos from Mail to iPhoto stopped working after the latest update to Mountain Lion.
The option to export is not greyed out and clicking on it does nothing. No export or error message.
Does anyone have a fix for this .

It is neither as easy or as quick to do what Linc is advising .
The old system, before the Safari update, of just adding all the photos to Iphoto was far superior.
I hope Apple fix this, as it is somewhat laborious to do as is suggested.
Yes. Found the same issue. No solution yet. Apple quit fooling around with stuff that worked fine in the past. For heaven sakes you are acting like Microsoft. Fix the problem NOW! Makes you wonder what you guys are thinking.
I just tried to teach my computer-illiterate Mom how to do this, only to find that it still doesn't work. Well, at least the Podcasts app on my iPhone looks like a reel-to-reel tape recorder. Glad to see Apple is focusing on making their software "just work".
It would not be so bad if Apple took the option of save to iphoto off, rather than leaving a nonfunctioning command in a drop down box ! They do need to sort this because if one is in receipt of a large number of photos in emails it is an absolute bore importing them into iphoto. I suppose they want us not to use apple mail for photos !

What works is dragging the photo from mail to iPhoto.
No, and neither does Apple, unless you consider "drag the photo to iPhoto" a "fix". Really lame.
Appears to have been fixed in latest build of OSX - 10.8.3
Thanks for the heads up Bruce! ....I verified correct functionality with two "Save to iPhoto" tests here from Mail. iPhoto opened automatically and displayed both photos in the Events folder with each click of the Mail message "Save to iPhoto" button.

Not necessarily. Works for me with Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.

Works for me too with OSX 10.9 and iPhoto 9.5. It is now called Export to iPhoto - and only appears when you have photo attachments and you hover the mouse over the fine line below the mail header
Have you tried Command (right) - clicking on the image and selecting Export to iPhoto from the contextual menu?
Thanks Bruce2125, it worked great! I have Mavericks, but in the info. it won't allow me to change the operating system.
