My deleted contacts still show up when I want to send a text message

have tried

go to the messages app and tap on the new message icon

in the recipient field, tap the name of the recently deleted contact (or part of the number}

when the contact shows up in the list, you should see a blue "i" icon right next to the contact you just deleted

tap on the "i" icon. Next,t tap on Remove from Recents

I believe I have found a solution!

All you have to do it type their name in as if you were going to text them, then you'll see a blue "i", hit that and then hit "Remove From Recents" and then when you go to type in their name again it does not appear! Hallelujah!

i do know that

but they pop up continuously out of nowhere even after deleted

there are hundreds of them

After I deleted the number in contacts I sent a message to the number I was trying to delete permanently, then went back and clicked details in the upper right corner of the text message. Then the i with the circle around it, tap that and then click remove from recent. It worked. Yay!

This trick worked beautifully for me. I had tons of contacts left over in "recents" that I had already deleted off of my mom's old phone. I just went through the whole alphabet one letter at a time and used this trick on each contact under all 26 letters. Have had no trouble with it since. HIGLY RECOMMEND.

If you type their name in for the text, there should be and "i" next to it, click on it and remove from recents

It still shows up because it is saved in your recents. If you click on the conversation or the name when you type it in the search in messenger, hit "Delete Recents" and it will go away.

Okay so when it says remove from recents in the contacts does that mean that you have had a convo with them recently?
