Hi is this possible to add one 8gb and two 2 gb memory modules in late 2011 21.5inch imac?

Actually I have installed one 8gb module on top of my existing TWO 2 gb factory in built modules. System is working fine though everywhere in the internet it is written that iMac mid 2011 ONLY supports maximum of 4 GB module per slot!!! Then how my system is working? Can I install one more 8gb Module?
They support larger than 4 GB Modules, it's just that none larger than 4GB were available at time Apple wrote the specs.
What is the largest GB model they support?
