cursor doesn't change correctly

My cursor isn't changing as it should under certain circumstances in Logic. The behavior hasn't been entirely consistent, so it's a bit difficult to describe accurately. For example, when I hover over the bottom right corner of a region in the arrange window and expect to see the region length change cursor, the normal pointer cursor remains. I can click and adjust the region as I would expect, and usually the cursor will change at this point, but not when I just hover over the appropriate spot. Some of the time, the cursor will then remain "stuck" after I finish adjusting the region length. This happens with other tools as well, and not only in hover/context-specific situations. If I hit escape and then select a tool from the pop-up menu, the cursor doesn't always change. Cursors for the pencil, zoom, and marquee tools appear to always work, but all others are inconsistent.

This is a recent install of Logic 9.1.7 on Mountain Lion (a clean install of the OS on a new boot volume), but the problem didn't appear until at least a couple weeks after installation. I can't think of any other changes I made around the time the problem started, but it's certainly possible I'm forgetting something. Does anyone have any idea what's causing the problem? Thanks.

There is an issue when using Logic with multiple desktops..

Move Logic to Desktop #1 or assign Logic to "All Desktops' and all will be well again...

See this thread for more info....

Hi SummerDice,

Yes, there is also still an issue under certain circumstances with multiple Desktops and Mountain Lion which was also apparently resolved in Mavericks.. (I've never heard anyone report any further issues after updating at least..)

However just go to Mission Control in ML and delete any extra desktops you may have.. by clicking the X in the top left hand corner of each of them as shown at the top of the Mission Control Screen....

Move your mouse over the small desktop icon to see the X

Also in System Prefs/Mission Control.. do you have your settings set like this? (This is Mav's Mission Control prefs but I think they were the same in ML too)

If not, set them like this and restart your Mac.. Then test again....

if they are set like this.. try unchecking all of them.. closing prefs...and then reopen and reset them to look like the above screenshot... restart your Mac and test again..

Fingers crossed that might help resolve things for you..

Hi there,

Did you ever solve this issue? I have Logic X, Mountain Lion and an extremely annoying cursor which flickers between icons. Its guess work what command I'm using. I've googled this to death and cannot get a solution. Please please share if you have found a solution as you will be doing a very good thing!

Thanks.

ps The desktop assignment suggested by The art of Sound makes no difference whatsoever unfortunately. Maybe The Art of Sound has another solution?

Hi Art of Sound thanks for your reply. I'm not using multiple monitors but I have desktop screens. Interestingly when I change from a logic view set to another I see a desktop in between the transition. Could this be something to do with it? I have about 5 desktops by default. I don't really want them. They just appeared when I updated from snow leopard to mountain lion. Apologies if I sound stupid! I'm new to mountain lion and snow leopard had spaces.

Thanks again, any ideas?

Hi Art of Sound,

thanks for this. I did try what you say but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. I've decided to upgrade to Mavericks which I really didn't want to do initially (as have to buy new CAD software as isn't compatible withMavericks) but it might be the only way to cure my problem with Logic which is presently unusable with this cursor issue. Really annoying as well as expensive. Apple know exactly what they're doing.

thanks anyway.
