Canon MP495 Scanner not working

Hi all,

I have setup my Canon MP495 all-in-one printer on my iMac and while it is printing fine, the scanner just isn't working. When I go into Print & Fax in the system preferences the Canon MP495 is only displayed under the Printers heading.

So I tried clicked on the + button and my Mac finds a device called Canon MP495 series with a kind of Bonjour Scanner. At this point I thought ah there we go sorted. But once I have clicked on that device and clicked Add. When I open the scanner it just says Trying to open scanner session and gets stuck there.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could fix this?

Thanks,

Mike.

"For network users, Auto Scan Mode is only available when scanning at a computer using MP Navigator EX software and selecting the 1-click feature then "save to PC"." US Canon product description-MP495 Pixma.

I have tried everything to get the Scanner to show up on the Printer & Scanner System Preference page like it used to. Thanks Apple. 😕

Hi there!

I was also one of the frustrated ones that couldn't get their Canon MP495 to scan wirelessly from the MP Navigator, reading through this thread and doing my own research, I came by the solution.

Apparently, when the MP495 installs, it actually creates two printer drivers or ports, one for USB/wired and one wireless/networked. Launch the MP Navigator, click on the preference button on the lower right corner of your welcome screen and you will see the pictured screen below. On the Product Name line, click the arrow and you will see you actually have the two printer drivers/ports as mentioned above, the networked one is not the default, just select the one with the networked description and you will be able to scan wirelessly.

I hope this work for you and other ones figuring this thing out, as it did for me.

Good Luck!
