Mail won't let me save preferences

When I change any settings in the Mail preferences for my iCloud account, Mail is refusing to store the settings with the following error message:

Invalid Incoming Mail Server

The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty.

But the Incoming Mail Server field is not empty, it contains "p05-imap.mail.me.com" which is also grey and not editable. It's only with the iCloud account. I have other mail accounts in Mail (Gmail, the mail account at my university) and with these there's no problem.

Any hints on what is causing this problem and/or what I might be doing wrong would be highly appreciated.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Thanks for your reply Paolo, at least I know now that I'm not the only one with that issue.

I couldn't quite follow your description but I'm pretty sure that the fact, that you see the same mail server does not mean much in this context. A crashing mail client cannot be explained from the server side. Even if the server would be the root of the problem, a client should never crash, just because a server is misbehaving.

Hi, did you ever find a solution to this problem? I cannot save my mailbox preferences either? When I restart mail the boxes are all checked again and it's very frustrating. Any help is appreciated!

puppteisto, I use Mountain Lion now and do not have any problems with Mail since.

Csound solved it for me - right click account and change mail behaviors by unchecking send note to email.
