Why can't Apple develop a stylus that functional for precision drawing.

APple is spending millions to fix a broke maps project, how about using some of those funds to develop a stylus that can be useful for precision drawing? Now that would be great asset to the user community.

I'm really looking forward to have a stylus for my iPad. I love drawing, and I do it a lot for my job as well. I am an architect, and love to draw both with computer and in hand.

I tried many different stylus on the market, and find them all very disappointing.

Drawing apps on the other hand are getting better and better.

I have the feeling that the only reason why Apple doesn't allow a decent stylus on their products, is because of the famous ironical phrase that Steve Jobs used when introducing the iPhone the very first time: "who needs a stylus?"

I loved that phrase myself too. It also sounded very smart in a time when all the competitors even the smartest ones (there were plenty) were left thousand miles behind by the new iphone. Finally something so natural to use as only a bare hand can be!

Now everyone has learned to pinch, and scroll, and tilt, and so on...

I think it is time to grow, and start using tools.

I want to use a precise tool on the screen. I'm sure it could work like magic.

I love to work with some available tools like for example water colour in apps like "Bamboo Paper" or "53 Paper" or "Sketches". They all look great and natural. The only problem is the bulky stylus we are obliged do use!

I think Apple should think back at their Newton, wich also was a revolutionary project that unfortunately disppeared. It was based on a very originl use of writing recognition, and use of stylus.

I wrote a request in the feedback page

Please do so as well, all who think stylus would be a good thing to have.

Just so you guys know there is now such a fine point electronic stylus available for fine point writing on capacitive touch screens, it's called the true glide apex and it has a 2.3mm fine point tip. It's $59.99 but worth the price to me considering what your getting and being able to use your pad as you want without going to Samsung or Microsoft. Here are some links to the details on it.

Has anyone seen/tried the Maglus stylus? (http://maglusstylus.com/product.php/2/Maglus_Stylus_with_Removable_Tip_System -- or google for "Maglus stylus" and let it redirect)

This one got a quite good review from the verge

I had a couple of low-end styluses (styli?) that I had used with my original iPad but now, with the iPad Air, they all appear a bit "draggy" across the screen (no protector, yet). I'm hoping to find something with some zip but not a lot of issues (such as seem to come with the Bluetooth models or the 'maybe-scratch-the-screen Jot-types). Something basic, no batteries, and a decent line for note-taking and for sketching. (Thanks to all who have contributed useful links/leads on models you've tried!!)

I have been a loyal Apple customer for years but the S-pen is the reason I'm currently selling my 5s and iPad Air. I live in NYC and use the subway for transportation. Working full time and also being a full time student , requires me always carry my books and notebooks with me all day so I can study and do homework. I'm tired of carrying around a full backpack everywhere I go so I'm to Samsung. Hands down, Apple makes the best phone and tablet but being able to completely eliminate individual notebooks and pens is a blessing for me.

Rick,

Although I agree with you upto a point, I also disagree on others. It is a shame that there is no fine-tipped "i-pen" designed by Apple but there are plenty of other products that are more than adequate to draw with.

I admit that it would be good if Apple had their own pen and this is because Apple products are designed very well indeed. This brings me on to my second point which is that I do not think that there are sufficient drawbacks/short-comings in Apple products such as the iPhone or iPad to consider them as such.

I don't know what examples I could use that could be classed as hardware short-comings. As far as hardware is concerned, and having switched from Windows to Mac, Samsung to iPhone, Apple design is excellent. 3rd party Apple accessories are designed so well because Apple hardware is of a very high standard and I am sure that if Apple haven't designed accessory XYZ, another company will, and they will do it well.

So maybe it's ok that there isn't a pen by Apple - I use the Jot-Pro and use different apps such as sketchbook and procreate and also sketches, and I am pretty satisfied with my work. Also, if there isn't anything today, there will be something tomorrow because when there's a market for something, someone, somewhere will do it.

So like I say, I do agree with you up to a (fine 😉) point, but I now consider myself an Apple user with an LG Tone+ headset, a Jot-Pro pen and speck Mac cover and so on...
