I am quite new to my Mac, it is recently updated to mountain lion and safari 6 (?). worked ok previously and I need to use this site a lot, it is ok on my windows laptop and my iPad. Tried some of the suggestions posted but still having dificulty with this site.

If the site uses Flash that may be your issue, OS X does not come pre-installed with Flash so you would need to navigate to Adobe's website and download it.
However if this site is the only site you're having issue with then I think the issue is with the site.You may need to contact the website and ask if their site runs on Safari, if it doesn't find out what browsers they support. I'd be a little surprised if it's a Internet Explorer only site but if that is the case then post back and we can instruct how you can view it using Safari.

Thanks will try this, the site works ok on my ipad with safari which is what is confusing me and the site worked before I used my free upgrade. Confused!
Nope! downloaded Flash player and still not loading. I'll try emailing the site but as I said it worked before I up graded to mountain lion, might be something they have had a problem with before though.
Hi the address bar starts to load then freezes and then a message safari can't open the page because the server where the page is located isn't responding.
That usually means what it says - their server is down.
Try again tomorrow.

Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
208.67.222.222

Then Apply.
For 10.5/10.6 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
Morning decided to sleep on it! Tried adding the numbers above but still not working. Have e.mailed the Duke of Edinburgh Award site and asked them if they have had any other problems with Mac login to their site. Can't be their server as I can get on to it ok from other devices.
