Fix for iPhone 5 Bluetooth audio loss / disconnect?

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5. I have a Motorola HX550 Bluetooth Headset which worked flawlessly with the iPhone 4s. However, since upgrading to the iPhone 5, I frequently lose audio when in the middle of a call. I am not certain whether it is a full disconnect or just an audio loss. The person on the other end reports still being able to hear me, however, I suppose they could hear me speaking over another source even if bluetooth disconnected. The loss of audio is always preceded by a quick shrill noise, so I can easily tell when it happens. All I have to do to fix the problem is to select Audio Source on the call screen, temporarily switch audio back to the iPhone, and then switch back to the headset, and then it starts working again.

Is is important to note that I am not the only one experiencing this issue:

If you go to the Plantronics website and look at the "Ratings and Reviews" on the Voyager Legend you will see the same issue reported:

Really nice Headset unless you own an Iphone 5. I own several Plantronics headsets and have always loved the quality/ performance. This headset seems not to be compatible with the new Iphone 5. In the middle of a conversation it will lose all incoming audio. This leaves you trying to switch audio sources really fast in order not to lose your phone call. Ive tried 3 legend headsets and they all do the same thing. Hopefully this gets fixed soon because the headset is really nice

Since this issue appears to affect multiple headsets from multiple vendors, I think it is fair to conclude that it is an issue with the iPhone5 bluetooth itself.

I am posting this as a new discussion as I don't see any other posts specific to this iPhone 5 Bluetooth issue. I would have reported this as a problem to Apple, but don't seem to be able to find a way to do this on the web. Hopefully they are already aware, but if not, maybe they will see i here.

If anyone else has experienced this issue, or has recommendations on how to prevent this from happening, I would appreciate your feedback / additions to this post.

Plantronics Voyager Lengend is all it says on the pamplet that came with it.

People on the other end of the phone call say the sound is much, much better than before. It is sold in the Apple Store. It has more options, such as the ability to answer or ignore an incoming call by voice command. It has its own voice recognition button that allows you to check connection, battery life, pairing, and redial by voice command, but you cannot redial by any button control alone. It costs about $100. Although it did not come with an extra charge cord (the Motorola had a short cord for travel), it has a magnet that connects the charge cord for easy attachment.

Three drawbacks: 1. It has one hour less battery time, seems to take more time to charge, and does not automatically go to sleep to save battery life. 2. It is larger, with a pivotting wand for the microphone. Upside of this is that it is very comfortable and much more securely held on the ear. I am just concerned about storing it in my purse when I take it off because of the moveable parts. I am planning to figure out a protective case or bag for it. 3. If listening to iTunes, cannot override from the bluetooth to ask for voice dial or give Siri comands. Have to go to the phone and pause iTunes. Incoming calls, of course, do interrupt iTunes and the music resumes when the call is over.

The only reason the Apple Store offered me the discount is because I had been to the Genius Bar 4 times to get the problem resolved and they put me through the trouble of wiping off my hard drive and redoing so much setup unecessarily. If I can go to their website and find my way to this forum and learn that this is a common problem, they should have been able to explain this to me straight away. Otherwise, they are not really liable for Motorola's outdated technology.

I have the Plantronics Legend and it randomly switches from Bluetooth to IPhone all the time. It's a very comfortable Bluetooth device but it is very frustrating for a call to switch in the middle of a conversation. I've updated regularly on the IPhone 5 and not sure how to update anything on the Legend. Any suggestions?
