I am having issues doing some reporting. I have a file that I pull from safari- I need to be able to put this into numbers. Typically, in windows, I would paste the info onto a notepad and save as .csv, then open again in numbers.
So--I can't save in pages like that-- and I can't get it to past in numbers correctly. Any suggestions would be great!

5 years later and I had the same issue.
Solution paste csv text in textedit
click on 'Format' on top of menu
click on 'Make Plain Text'
save with '.csv' extention
then it opens in numbers & word for mac

Not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but Numbers and/or Excel can create .csv files.
What is the file format of the file you got from Safari?
Was it a downloaded file? Text copied from a web page?
If copied text, was it in columns when you copied it?
Well-- What I have is just text: So-- Typically, on a windows machine, I just go to the website that pulls the reports-- it shows the text (comma separated) and then I copy and paste it into something to save it -- like notepad. The text editor won't save it in .csv.
I tried just pasting it in numbers-- but- just puts it all in one cel.
Any other suggestions?

So -- essentially-- I have text that is already comma separated, but can't figure out how to either save as a .csv file that i can import into numbers-- OR just save the text in numbers - where each comma separates the data into different collumns.

If the commas are in the correct places in the text, with a Return at the end of each line, you can simply save the file as a .txt file and then in Numbers choose Import and select the text file.
ok- cool-- sooooo -- the question is --Where will numbers allow me to import--- I see export- no import.
Paste the text into TextEdit. In the menu bar change it to Plain Text. Then save it with a .csv extension. Provided that the text is actually comma separated it should import into Numbers just fine.
UGH-- just saved it as a .txt and then did open with numbers-- still -- all in once cell per line. no worky. Any other idea??
"bispymusic's" suggestion should work with Pages and Excel, or any other spreadsheet program.
Try Open in Numbers, select the text file, and open it.

Yep.
Be sure to save the file as plain text, not RTF.
Then in Finder change the extension to ".csv."
The in Numbers, choose Open and open the file.
