Loosing Time Code FC6 - Mini DV

Hi Gang

Never expereinced loosing time code before. Have noticed it's becoming problematic, (during capture), when tape was stopped-started as it was being recorded. Never had this problem before. Have tried two different Panasonic Camcorders, (both are in great shape), cleaned heads in both units, problem continues. Wondering if trashing preferences would help?

Thanx

Mike

Happy to help, but... You've got to answer the questions. The important one is:

Does the timecode reset to 0?

If it does, the issue is being able to recapture if your scratch drive fails or you delete the media and later need to reconstruct your project. There are 2 ways to deal with this; One, change the source reel for each timecode break so for example the first clip would be from reel 1A, the next clip from 1B, etc. This way, you'd be able to recapture (but it would be a pain).

The other thing to do, is capture all your clips (individually if necessary) and drop them all into one timeline and output that timeline back to tape. Then recapture from that tape. Also a pain.

Thank you again - I'm still trying to determine the TC reset issue on one particular camera. Still testing .. need more time ... However, please stay with me on this: I'm not too concerned about recapture, or deleted scratch drive media. I'm very anal about backups. This is not of immediate concern. I have all this covered ...

In the meantime:

I'll just deal with the broken time code, and just "manually set up each capture after each timecode reset." Which means: 'hit escape', go on to capture the next piece, and so on, and so on....this will work as 'a work around'

Yes Mike? Correct Mike?
