I've only seen one or two other threads. I think this issue is ios 6 related. I had a voicemail on my phone. Upon receiving a nother voicemail, the first one duplicated itself. After another VM, it duplicated again. Same sequence, it happened again. Any idea what is happening?

This is happening to me as well.  I'm constantly deleting 5 sometimes six copies of the same voicemail.  Carrier is Sprint.

Happening to me as well. Carrier is Verizon.

Had 4 voicemail messages from today on my new iPhone 5 (activated yesterday). Two disappeared for no cause, and another duplicated x2 ending up with 3 of the same. I did a hard turn off and back on, and each time I got one more of the two messages that first survived. Now I've got 3 of one and 5 of the other! Carrier is Verizon. What is going on?

I also have a week old iphone 5 and my carrier is Verizon and I am running into the same problem, certain voicemails are duplicated and they now multiply where they are several of the same voicemail. I took my phone to the Apple store and they did a re-installation of the iOS and they told me that if after the re-install that I may have to talk to Verizon about it. I don't think is a Verizon issue because my wife also has Verizon new iPhone 4S and she does not have this problem. It is frustating this issue.

I am also having this issue with my iphone 5.  My carrier is Verizon.  I did not have this issue with my 4s with IOS 5.  My carrier at that time was AT&T.

If you do a search of the discussions, you will see this seems to be a Verizon issue, although some have been Sprint, so it could just be a CDMA phone issue. I'm not sure if there is a solution for it right now, but voicemail is a carrier function, so I suggest contacting them.

I've been experiencing the same thing on Rogers/Fido network in Canada. iPhone 5 6.0.1.

I'm just repeating what I have seen and read. It is not happening for me on AT&T, nor have I seen any examples in the forum. The carriers handle the voicemail, and Apple and the iOS for the phone are a conduit for downloading it like data. I do know that when Verizon had issues with VVM in the early part of their introduction of the iPhone, it had to do with carrier support. They have to have something in their network to handle it. So it leads me to believe there is some type of problem with how these carriers are handling the voicemails that is causing the duplications. This is my subjective review, not based on anything scientific.

Hi I got an iPhone 5 in November 2012. I was so excited to get a new phone as I had been using an older iPhone. My new carrier is Verizon; ios version 6.0.2. However, ever since I got the phone I have had voicemail messages that duplicate themselves. This can be verified when you check the time/date stamp; thus even without listening to them you can see them. I don't know precisely how or when they duplicate but I have noticed that they sometimes duplicate whenever I re-play a vm message. In other words if I listen to the same vm more than once then it duplicates. I have had up to 8 duplicate vm messages. I went to Verizon about this and to the Apple Genius Bar and no one could help me. Eventually, I was so frustrated that Apple replaced my iphone with a brand new iPhone. Great...it only took a week and the problem began again. Apple support keeps telling me to restore the phone and to NOT use back-up to restore...so then how would I regain all my info?...just the cloud alone does not return SMS, etc. I also called Verizon support and they told me they would reset my voicemail. I said great and next thing you know all my messages on my phone were wiped out and Verizon IT gave me no warning that resetting my vm on their end would erase all my messages. I've already tried restoring the iPhone via iTunes from back-up but Apple told me my back-up could have a bug! Yeah right! I'm just so over trying to fix these things. My best advise for anyone experiencing this problem is to delete the vm ASAP so that it does not duplicate. It is NOT convenient. I like to listen to my vm's on my hands free mic in the car...but I can't dictate them while driving...so then I do have to play them again later if I need to take down info. So this is a seriously frustrating situation to live with. Verizon and Apple both told me they had never heard of such a thing and I was the only one they had ever heard of having this problem...but obviously I am not the only one. This is just totally unacceptable. I hope someone figures this out...SOON!

Hi I got a new iPhone 5 in October 2012 and I’m currently using IOS version 6.0.2. I was so excited to get the new iPhone as I had been using an older iPhone (3GS) but now I am so disappointed that I am experiencing issue.

Previously I was with T-Mobile but my new carrier is Verizon and ever since I got the new iPhone I have had voicemail (vm) messages that duplicate themselves. This can be verified when you check the time/date stamp; thus even without listening to them you can see them. I don't know precisely how or when they duplicate but I have noticed that they sometimes duplicate whenever I re-play a vm message. In other words if I listen to the same vm more than once then it duplicates. However the duplication/replication is sporadic, as some vm’s duplicate and some don’t. I have had up to 8 duplicate vm messages of the original vm and it seems they can duplicate as long as the original vm is present.

I went to a Verizon store about this and to the Apple Genius Bar and no one could help me. I called Verizon IT support and they told me they would reprovision my phone and reset my voicemail. I said great and next thing you know, without any warning, all my vm messages on my phone were wiped out.

I went to the Genius Bar and they told me to do a restore but NOT to use restore with any BACK-UP! So then exactly how would I regain my data and info? So I did a restore to the iPhone via iTunes from computer back-up but that did not solve the problem either and Apple told me my back-up could have a bug!

Then Verizon offered to send me a new iPhone. I said Ok will it be a NEW iPhone or a reconditioned iPhone? I was told it would be a new iPhone but when I got it via FedEx it turned out to be a reconditioned iPhone. So I went back to Apple and they replaced my iPhone with a brand new iPhone. I thought great this will solve the problem...but within a week the problem began again.

I'm just so over trying to fix these things. My best advise for anyone experiencing this problem is to delete the vm ASAP so that it does not duplicate. It is NOT convenient. I like to listen to my vm's on my “hands-free” mic in the car...but I can't dictate them while driving...so then I do have to play them again later if I need to take down info. So this is a seriously frustrating situation to live with and cost me countless hours.

Verizon and Apple both told me they had never heard of such a thing and I was the only one they had ever heard of having this problem...but obviously I am not the only one. This is just totally unacceptable. I hope someone figures this out...SOON!

Amendment: Today I called Apple support. Apple tech support claims this is not a software issue and that they have heard of it and it is definitely Verizon. Apple tech support phoned a Verizon manager and the Verizon Manager told me it was a known issue ticketed since Oct 11, 2012 but that it has been proven that it is NOT a Network issue and he blamed Apple. So 2-hours wasted and I am nowhere!

You are definitely not the only person with this problem.  I am having the exact same problem too.  I reported it to Verizon a few weeks ago and they said " currently Apple has a fix in a software upgrade that is currently being tested internally. There is no date on when this date for when this software will be released."

This is a most frustrating issue.  I have had this same problem for a while now.  I got an iPhone 4S in June and the problem started.  Was told to reload the iPhone from iTunes. Did that still had the issue.  They replaced my iPhone.  Still had the issue.  They deleted me from the voice mail server.  Still had the issue.  Upgraded to iOS 6. Yep still happened.  Upgraded to the iPhone 5. Still have the issue.   Restored the iPhone 5 AND deleted me again from the VM server.  Still going on.  The strange thing is that not a single person I know with the iPhone is having this problem but me.  It is also strange to call Verizon and they are helpful and try to be understanding but they all say the same thing " I have never heard of this before".  And yet on this forum there are lots of people saying they have this problem.   It seems to be a random glitch.  Sure hope they get it resolved.  I did call my voice mail instead and on that these voice mails are still only there once.  The issue seems to be the VM server does not know  detain vm's have already been downloaded and so downloads them again.

One question to everyone.  I have 2 phone numbers ringing to the same phone.  The main number and then one that is forwarded to it.  Any chance with everyone else that this could be a common thread?

    Very very frustrating.

I only have one phone number, so I don't think that's the common thread.

But it appears that it occurs on both the 4s and 5, across multiple IOS versions.  But only with Verizon.

Same exact issue here as well.

    iPhone5, IOS 6, Sprint
