2GB RAM sticks available for MacBook Pro? Anyone? Anyone?

The Dell Precision M90, which uses the same Intel Core Duo processors as the MBP, can be configured with 4 GB of "2 DIMM"s of "DDR2-667 SDRAM" which [[b[I think is the same type of memory used in the MBP. IF so, this means that it's possible that there are some 2GB chips 'out there' and that they 'may be' useable in the MBP's, am I right? Or am I terribly amiss? (Rather reminds me of when I bought my 12" 867mHz G4 PowerBook which, with a 512MB chip was 'supposed' to have maximum RAM of 640MB yet when I slipped a 1GB chip in has been working perfectly well with 1.12GB of RAM for years now.)

But anyway... I've searched for 2GB DIMMs the Google-World over and can only find 2GB 'kits' - nothing that even seems to resemble a single 2GB stick. Is Dell 'doubling up' with piggy-backed slots or something to squeeze in that additional 2GBs of RAM (which, at $2,560, would be one expensive piggy-back ride) or are there, in fact, 2GB chips available that would fit in a MBP and I've simply not been Google-adept enough to find them?

And if I did find them - and bought them - do you think they'd work in MBPs? I'm fairly certain that the processor will address over 2GBs! (And they would work in the Intel iMac, too, I'm guessing.)

I would love to double my RAM... "double your pleasure, double your fun..."

Hey Guys,
Did you check out the specs and price on that Dell Precision M90?? When you line up all the specs to a MacBook Pro of the same config. you are talking only about $40 difference in price...plus with a Mac you can run both OS X and Winblows XP if you absolutely had to. Wow!! 4 Gig's of ram would definitely break the bank. What's the cheapest anybody can find 2 - 2 gigs sticks for and is it compatible with the MBP??

That's really not too bad - within 2 months or so, I'll bet they'll be down to $500. In 1986 when I was a developer working with a prototype Mac II, we paid $786 per 1 MEGABYTE sticks of RAM - thank goodness the release models used the same type of RAM... the proto didn't even have a 'top' which is just as well because the only 24-bit cards we could get were about 18-20 inches tall.

Still... at $1700 for 4GBs of RAM, that's over $800 less than what you'd pay Dell. I just wonder if they'll actually WORK in the MBP's and the iMacs. I think I'll shoot Crucial a msg and see if they've tested on either (or have sold to customers who have tried them in those machines).

When they do come down to $500 or less (and maybe I'm being overly hopeful on the '2 month' scenario) and I know that they will work in my Macs, I'll likely scoop them up, though. Of course by that time, the Intel desktops may have come out and I'll have my eye on one of those puppies (I wish that Apple would offer something between the iMac and a giant tower - I loved my little Mac IIci and I'd love something in that size again... ah, thinking about that old, pricey RAM has me thinking of the days of yore...).

Thanks for finding the RAM for me - I need to brush up on my Googling skills! Perhaps someone will jump in who has tried them!

The 2GB sticks that corey found are the ONLY ones I've ever seen (unless Dell would just sell the RAM without the M90!) and so they are also the cheapest. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow (or maybe email tonight) and ask if they know if those sticks will actually WORK in a MBP and Intel iMacs.

And even if Dell would sell them, they would be over $800 more!

I've purchased non-OWC labeled equipment from OWC before and found their customer service to be excellent. I've been shopping around for a small 100GB portable drive to take on the road with me, as a matter of fact, and I might be getting one of their OWC branded drives. It seems as if they're one of those companies that have grown because of offering great products at really good prices and having exceptional customer service and as I've watched them begin to sell their own branded hardware it seems that it meets or beats most competitors on price and performance. At this point I would certainly trust them for RAM - I only wish they made 2GB sticks!

Hit that Crucial link again - the price has gone down from $850 a stick to less than $700. I said in another msg that my magi price point was $500, but if they get to $600, the temptation might be too great. I'd likely only get them for my MBP at the moment, which may sound odd, but my Intel iMac was a machine that I only intended on keeping until I see what the desktop Intels look like - while I intend to keep the MBP until AppleCare runs out!

Looking better and better, though!
