Screen saver not working. Ruined iMac!

Upgraded iMac to Mountain Lion a couple of weeks ago. Screen saver was working well until Sunday or Monday. Did not know! It was working before. The screen now has burn marcs! Ruined! Screen saver still not working except forced with hot corner. Furious! Tried permissions, restart with OC p r. Is there any way to fix this? And the screen? Took great care of this iMac and now because what seems like a bug from Apple, it's ruined.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hmmm, screen saver was working and now again is not on its own. Checked the preferences folder and don't have the com.apple.screensaver.plist file. Honestly, I think I deleted it as one of the first things I tried yesterday. But after I log out and in the file is still gone. Not sure what is causing this behavior.

Same problem here.

And by the looks of the huge size of this blog, many others do too. Cannot get it to work. At all.

This function is one of the most basic, simple on any system. Truly pathetic that Apple has failed to get it right, clearly does no testing (leaves it to users to find the bugs) and still hasn't resolved the problem or even bothered to respond.

Hopeless.
