How to disable gatekeeper

Hey!

I have some difficulties disabling the gatekeeper on my computer. I have received instructions that say I need to allow applications downloaded from Internet by pressing the anywhere button. But I can’t find where to do it.

I have had problems before with finding these kinds of things on my computer because it is from Sweden, and therefore some of it is located other places. Maybe it because of this?

The answer mr da gave you is correct, however, I would like to point out that this makes your Mac significantly less secure. I would suggest leaving that preference on its default (middle) setting, and when you need to open an app that has not been signed by a developer, control-click it and choose Open. Then, when warned about the possible danger of that app, click the Open button. This will open the app, and in the future (after opening it successfully once from an admin account) you can open the app normally.

Thank you for your answers. But Mr. da the problem is that I can't find where to select in security & privacy therefore I ask you if maybe you know where I can find it. Maybe it is placed somewhere else?

Thomas A Reed when I try to open the application it says that it can't recognize the app? Therefore I see no other solution than allowing downloads from the internet.

I know I now sound like an idiot with a MacBook because i cannot make a screen photo but that’s also what I have been trying to say, that my computer is turned the wrong way with everything because when I try making a screen photo it doesn’t work out that way?

Well it says image, sorry.

Is it maybe because it’s from Sweden, because I have had difficulties finding other functions as well?

OK - now if it says "disk Image" that's a different story. A disk image is like a computer disk, sort of. It should mount on your Desktop - just as a disk would - if it's opened properly. There is a small app that's used to mount the disk image (which should have the extension of .dmg) named "DiskImageMounter.app". From the Finder, select the file and Get Info (Command-I) on the file. It should say Open with: and then have "DiskImageMounter.app" as the application to open and mount the file.

The application is actually in System>Library>CoreServices if you need to find it.

Now see if the file will open and mount - what's the extension on the file, anyway?

OK - it is a disk image, then, and should be opened with the app "DiskImageMounter.app" (check to see - by getting info in Finder - that that's the selected app for opening). The disk image should mount on the Desktop like a hard drive and there should be a PS Elements installaton app. Double-click on that and it should go about its business of installing PS Elements for you.

Let me know...
