Java Preferences missing from Utilities Folder
I just installed Java 2012-006 from software update and now Java Preferences Pane is missing from the Utilities Folder.
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I just installed Java 2012-006 from software update and now Java Preferences Pane is missing from the Utilities Folder.
I just had the same problem, no longer able to use dlink to view remote camera due to java option required. (Applet plug-in and web start application is missing).
I installed today's update, and Java Preferences is missing for me now as well. Any webpage that I go to with java says missing plug-in with no option to install other than going to java.com, which only has java 7, which does not work with Chrome.
I need to get the Apple distributed Java working again.
From <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5493>, About Java for OS X 2012-006:
"This update also removes the Java Preferences application, which is no longer required to configure applet settings."
This does not resolve the issue with home based video security systems such as https://www.mydlink.com/. The option sugested is not available for selection. I no longer have the ability to monitor or check my other house.
If you need Java your going download it from Oracle. http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_mac.xml
Okay, then how does one configure applet settings? How do I allocate memory and change settings?
Apple is getting away from supporting Java and is leaving it in Oracle's backyard.
I guess I will have to go Oracle. What is and is not required is not what Apple assumes in this case, very disapointing in such a widley used addition. Thanks for the feedback.
I have MAC O S X 10.7.5 Just downloaded the JAVA SE 7 update 9 64 bit. MyDlink cameras are now working again. I note that Java Preferences is No longer in Utlities.

Is Oracle's Java Control Panel in System Preferences and working?
Yes the Control Panel IS in System Preferences and working. Just did not see it in UTILITIES anymore.
In addition, My Macbook Pro now works with the MyDlink cameras after SE 7 update 9 , whereas it did not before!
Captual,
Did you remove the Apple java version, or just apply the update 9 ?
On Macbook Pro :Just applied the update 9. Went to Java Control Panel in Preferences-UPDATE-install.
On iMac: Googled Java for MAC- Downloaded it- installed. Same results.
Note that on one install, the option to " Show Console" was not checked?
To show console: Preferences-JAVA-Java Control Panel-ADVANCED-Java Console-Show Console=checked.
Thanks for the heads up, installing right now.
