Amazing. I have spent three hours over two nights on line with Apple support, and countless hours on my own trying to resolve this issue, and they couldn't come up with a fix. The communication between their engineers and the help staff was non-existent. You would think that Apple would know that this is a big problem and do what they can to address it, considering the amount of traffic concerning this issue. yet, when I mentioned this forum, I was told that the techs do not pay any mind to it. I mentioned the file concerning older video cards, but the engineers told my tech support guy, just keep trying the same old "unresponsive fix". Thank you for the file and the solution.

Did you tried to uninstall it completely. Just try to uninstall it with any third party application like revo uninstaller pro or iobituninstaller and remove it completely from your computer.

Once you removed it completely, Restart your computer then follow the below steps :

1. In run, type regedit

2. Once your got Registry window, press F3 and type apple and hit enter ( make sure that you took the backup of registry before doing this )

3. Delete the file which you got in search.

4. Follow this procedure until it says no more files or similar message like this

5. After that restart the computer once again

6. Then download the latest setup file of iTunes from apple website

7. Install it with option Run as administrator by right click on it (except Windows 'coz in windows XP, it will automatically run as administrator)

8. Hope it will Work. Good Luck.!!!

Note : Make sure that you following all these steps in administrator account

To activate administrator account, you need to run the cmd as administrator by right click on it

type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter

Log off the current account and login with administrator account..

Good Luck Friends.!!!!

OMG! This worked! Thank you so much! I have been trying to fix this for weeks. When I went to update iTunes, it completely crashed and wouldn't install correctly. After countless uninstalls/reinstalls/Errors (dll file issues, AMDS not working, iTunes Helper not responding, etc.), I came across your suggestion and the download for older video cards worked perfectly. I am literally jumping for joy right now. Thank you SO much! I wish I had found this solution sooner.

Your an absolute genius. I was getting ready to reinstall Windows because I couldn't fix this and couldnt add any new music to my iPhone.

Saw this right before doing that and, as a last ditch effort, tried it. I've been battling this problem for weeks and had little hope your suggestion would work.

Worked perfectly and now I am back in business.

How did you find this fix?

Why doesn't Apple offer this as a suggestion?

At any rate, thanks again!

I finally fixed the problem after 5 months. And it was dumb luck. I tried everything: uninstalling iTunes in the correct order, installing various older versions of iTunes, updating drivers, deleting old Apple files, merging Apple library files, restarting my computer a thousand times. I even called Apple Support and was on the phone with them for hours while they controlled my computer remotely and even they couldn't figure it out. Don't waste your time. It's as simple as the Apple Installer being incompatible with certain 64-bit components, apparently a common Windows problem. I tried the "old video cards" installer from Apple and that also didn't work. So I gave up. Until I stumbled on this link months later, and it worked! Hope it does for you too.

None of the solutions above were in fact a solution in my case. I tried to install iTunes on a new PC and it failed to start the service. I uninstalled and reinstalled everything Apple related and nothing seems to make iTunes work.

I understand Windows software was never Apple's cup o tea, but this time they really messed up. This shows a very disappointing lack of QA. It's not reasonable to enforce this kind of troubleshooting on a savvy user let alone the regular user. This is supposed to work out of the box like every other Windows application around. I don't understand how it came to this. I see more and more users complaining about iTunes on Windows. I'm starting to think like them.

Maybe you should plug in your USB to your iphone/ipad to install the driver first in your PC before installing iTunes? My computer is also a brand new computer and that was what I did. You're right, users shouldn't be put through this! I never have any problems whatsoever with previous versions on my Windows 7 PC, so I don't know if this is from Microsoft or Apple! 😠
