Macbook pro retina flicker

Dear Support,

I bought a Macbook pro retina recently, and now the screen keeps flickering, and is very annoying.

I am not sure how to reproduce it, when it happens, it will have horizontal lines cutting across the screen very quickly and disappear.

It happens randomly across all application.

It is the same as,

I have updated all patches, and still doesn't help.

Could you please advice how to fix it? Do i have to send it back?

Kind Regards

Andy

So I have a brand new mid 2015 15" Macbook Pro with built in Iris and add on AMD graphics cards and it is also showing screen flickering. Slight movement shifts and quick grey flicker across parts of the screen. Can go hours without an issue and then get really nasty. PRAM resets etc do not really have any effect.

Sent it into Apple support for repair and all they did was reinstall the OS and run the hardware tests, which passed but then they always pass and sent it back.

Trying to play with wifi channels. Really need apple to figure this one out and apply a fix.

I've been back and forth with Apple in regards to this. I've had my display replaced twice, my logic board replaced once or twice, and the entire computer replaced. It still is happening. At this point, I don't believe it is a hardware issue.

From my testing, it seems to occur when the computer switches between my integrated Intel Iris Pro graphics to the discrete nVidia 750m graphics chip. You can test this by going into System Preferences > Energy Saver and quickly toggling on and off the "Automatic graphics switching" option.

It looks like the computer is having trouble properly handing off the signal between the video cards when it dynamically switches. Maybe the only "solution" here is to keep things on the discrete graphics chip, but this is no solution in my books.

Hi I am from Turkey

I have the same issue for my brand new 15 inch macbook retina with amd GPU it is coast 2.500$ . it has been 2.5 months since I bought my mac. Flicker has just started. I have talked to apple call center and they did some software tests on the phone and told me that, your problem is software, reinstall the OS X. I formatted my comp. and reinstall my OS X. Problem is still here. Macbook pros have this problem since 2012 and this is 2015 !! This is stupid. I am going to take my macbook pro 15'' to apple Turkey tomorrow and demand new one

I have a late 2012 Macbook Retina we bought new and have just started experiencing the screen flickering a few months ago. We didn't get the extended warranty so we haven't bothered to bring it into the store. From what I've read here it definitely sounds pointless to get it fixed since nobody has a concrete solution. It happens with Safari and Quicktime player (but it seems like with Quicktime player it depends on the video quality) and was also happening with Chrome but I was able to change a setting in Chrome that actually fixed the problem. The setting I changed was "use hardware acceleration when available". The majority of my computer use involves Chrome so it seems to be a good fix for me so far, however, we bought the full season of the Walking Dead and we can't watch it because of the screen flicker.

The problem with flickering is caused by Wifi signals. My 2013 retina flickered like mad on 2.4GHZ and still does whenever I use 2.4ghz internet, but on 5Ghz wifi I never had not even one flicker. I acttua forgot this problem even existed, and only when I use 2,4Ghz I het reminded of it.

Solution: Get yourself a 5ghz router and more then likely flickering will stop.
