the internet on my macbook sucks?!

Hello everyone!

I'm hoping someone can help me with this! I just bought a 13 inch macbook pro about 6 days ago brand new from the store and I've found that for the past 2 days the internet has been painfully slow. I used to have a 17.3 inch HP laptop which I loved but I bought this one because I needed something lighter and more compact for school and things like that.

The only thing I've downloaded onto here is open office so I'm assuming it's not a hard drive issue? I have 3 songs on itunes, 4 pictures, and about 12 documents saved so I have no idea why this is happening. I read some other posts and people suggested checking in my activity monitor to see if there were any CPU percentages that were high. The highest one is 4.7%! I don't find that the programs themselves are slow, mainly the internet.

When I switch back to my HP laptop everything is completely fine and fast and both show strong connections. I even tried turning the wifi off on my HP to see if the internet would perform better on the mac and it made no difference!

Sorry for being a crybaby I'm just upset hahah. I worked so hard to save for this and it's already driving me nuts. I really don't want to have to return it:(

Thanks so much for the help lol! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

This forum if for the macpro desktop computer, and your question would likely get a better answer in a handful of other sections that have more hardware in common with your macbook. That said, I may be able to help. What does your network look like? What devices are on your network when you are having problems? How is your macbook connected to the network (wireless g/n 2.4/5 ghz), if it is wireless what kind of security are you using on your network? What kind of wifi card does your HP have, if it is a card that "broadcasts" this can cause problems? When you go to System Preferences > Network > little gear thingiee under the list of network interface devices > Set Service Order... What devices does it show and what order are they in? Is there a "service" called "bluetooth DUN"? Lastly, go to System Preferences > "security and privacy" > firewall, is your firewall on, if it is turn it off (and leave it off)? Then go to System Preferences > Sharing, unclick the lock, go to internet sharing, uncheck every thing, then go to bluetooth sharing, check the "use pairing for security", then click the lock in the courner, then click it again, enter your password, uncheck all of the boxes next to file sharing, web sharing, printer sharing, etc, then go to your browser and reset it...all of it, dont keep your history cookies, bookmarks, all of it. Close your browser. Shutdown your mac. Hold the shift button on ur mac while you press the power button on your mac, continue to do so til u see a progress bar under the apple (if u dont see it start over, at the shift+power button). When the login screen comes back up it should say "safe mode" under the apple above where you enter your pw to login. Login, then hold the option key while u open ur browser, it will ask u if u want to start fresh, or possibly if you want to start ur browser in safe mode, depending on the browser. Click yes. See how she goes.
A word of warning or advice (depending on how you take it) WEP secured wifi networks are not secure, use WPA. Don't use any "easy connect" garbage on your router. If you do, this can be causing your problem. This is because there is a delay while the router tries to classify your computer. MS gets around this by making sure that the computers connection to the router is insecure and easily traceable (and hackable)... But it sure is fast aint it. Report back if you still have issues with the answers to the questions I asked initially.
