Logic Pro 9 crashes while installing "basic content".

I'm going to call my ISP tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I've transferred full Pro Tools sessions over the net that were a little bigger than this without any corruption before.

My computer (2010 Quad Core MacPro) is on full alert mode (no sleep, no screen saver, etc), as I knew this would be a time consuming download, so there shouldn't be any file corruption happening as a result of that.

Moving my computer to another location to attempt a cleaner download is going to take some work, so I'm not going to pursue that right off.

Most likely, my next step is attempting to repair permissions and possibly rebooting OSX and Logic from scratch.

Two questions:

1. How do I properly remove whats been downloaded to my computer? Is it just a matter of dragging the App icon to the trash? I searched around for other files with the keyword 'Logic' and nothing seemed to come up.

2. My friend has Logic Pro 9 installed on his laptop. Can I copy his files on to a thumb drive and load it up on mine? Or I have another friend that owns a version of Logic on disc, can I install it on mine? I have a feeling thats either not going to make a difference or technically be violating copywrite law some how (even though I've purchased the app.)

1) Here is a link to how to prperly uninstall Logic Pro... Please read all of the thread as different versions of OS X and Logic require slightly different techniques to properly uninstall... (This is why i prefer to use the clean install method rather than trying to remove/reinstall!)

2) No... It is likely to cause more problems that it would fix as you have to copy across everything that Logic installs and there are a lot of different places.. (see #1) plus the permissions issue agaion, is likely to raise it's ugly head... and yes, it would most likely be illegal to even do...

If one buys Logic Pro Studio 9 in disc form on ebay, and then follows the upgrade path to 9.1.8, would the same issues appear? Would the update to 9.1.8 require this 'basic contents' download to occur? Or would it bypass that routine as 'basic contents' would have been installed with the original version 9 disc? If this was the work around, I would gladly pay the extra $80 for the disc.

Reeeaaaaally don't want to do a clean install of OSX.

When you initially install the Boxed version, all the additional content is installed from DVD (There are 7 or 8 DVDs in total I believe.. It's been a while!) so no, you wouldn't need to use the download additional content function of Logic 9.1.6 or later.. as it's all on the DVDs themselves. (This is how my main working system was installed too, via DVDs and I didn't need to use the additional content routines)

Also, remember to update via Software updates, once you have installed Logic and all the additional content from DVD as the DVD version of Logic Pro does not work with ML.... so don't try and run it first before updating.

Finally, unless you already have Logic Studio 1/Logic Pro 8 and it's serial, do not purchase the upgrade version of the boxed set.... (This is the most common version on sale on eBay!) You will need instead, to make sure you buy the Full version of Logic Studio 2/Logic Pro 9 boxed set instead... which typically costs more.

The auction I was looking at in particular is offering the unopened v9 upgrade package with 'an additional full license' supplied as well, making this a 'complete full version' of Logic Pro Studio 9. 'No need to have previous versions installed.' Not only that, but you're still able to proceed with future upgrades.

Is this normal? Where does this seller obtain these license numbers? If this is somehow legit, then I might end up persuing it this way. It sounds like (based on the original posters experience) that I can get a full refund from Apple for this app store purchase of 9.1.8. This ebay auction would cost me $279.

Again, this will be my last resort, as I'm going to check out the download cap situation with my ISP, and potentially perform a clean install of OSX.

I just tried deleting/downloading/installing the app again for the third or fourth time, still no dice.

I would assume you will be sold a Logic 8 Full version serial and then the Logic 9 upgrade serial...

How legal that is? Well, it's perfectly legal so long as both serials are not currently being used by anyone else at the same time... as essentially the seller is selling you both L8 full and L9 upgrade at the same time.Where he got them from? If it's not a new unopened pack.. then who knows.. You could ask him but whether or not you get an honest answer.. is, well.. how ebay works!

Deleting the app and reinstalling, isn't going to help... and unless you do that full complete uninstall I linked to earlier... then in reality, you are just spinning wheels at best. Not that a full uninstall may actually help more but it stands a better chance of working than simply removing/deleting the app from the applications folder.

Also, I wouldn't be concerned with the bit about...

...as it looks like there will be no further upgrade pricing discounts as such. When you purchase L9 from the app store you are essentially buying the full license each time... as no serials are required. I would expect the next major version of Logic to be exactly the same.... You just buy it for the one amount.., and it installs as a full version. It makes no difference if you have an earlier one installed or not... and there is and will be no upgrade pricing... as the full version costs less now, than the upgrade pricing was for the L9 upgrade from L8.

Finally, while I hope you do get a full refund from Apple, if that's how things turn out... make sure you deal with that first before spending more money on the Boxed set... so you don't end up double paying for everything.

Alright, I've confirmed with my ISP that there is no file size limit for downloading.

So, I'm cloning my system drive to a clean, bootable external drive in preparation for a clean install of OSX. I don't fully understand the process of running a clean install of Mountain Lion from this drive, so I'm going to play it safe and install from my Snow Leopard disc, and follow the upgrade path to Mountain Lion. Obviously, once Mountain Lion is up and running, the first thing I will do is redownload Logic 9.1.8 and see what happens.

I decided to at least take a stab at deleting the program files associated with Logic, before wiping my HD. This was based on the thread at Logic Pro Help (mentioned above). But other than the app itself, I can't find a single file related to logic based on his list. I found all of the correct folders, but none of the files specified or anything even remotely close.

So if these files don't exist, I really shouldn't have to reinstall OSX, right?
