Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D or 710?

Hello, I saw todat at best Buy a Pioneer 710 drive. Does anyone here know if that works on a Mac? Specifically, a Dual 2Ghz G5?

or should I go with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D?

Does that drive still need to be flashed to work on the G5 under 10.4.4? Is there anyplace that is selling known versions of that drive with the updated firmware so it DOESN'T have to be flashed?

Can it be flashed on a Mac? (I don't own a PC)

Anyone know? I'd love to have 16x and dual layer support.

G5 Dual 2GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.4), 2GB ram

So far so good burning out of Toast 7.02. Burned a dual layer Memorex at 2x, as well as a Verbatim DVD-R at 16x and a TDK DVD-R at 8x.

Have not tried DVDSP yet or the iAPPS. I am running DVDSP 4.03, so it sounds like I should be OK. I have iDVD 5.0.1, though I almost never use it. Do you know if that works with this drive? I know there are newer iAPPS out there that I haven't gotten yet.

Here is what the system profiler says

Firmware Revision: 1.06
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)
Profile Path: None
Cache: 2000 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: No

So if this is correct, can I NOT burn a CD in DAO mode? That seems hard to believe and is an absolute necessity as I do a lot of stuff with live music.

The product overview at Pioneer's site states the following: "Write formats include Disc-At-Once and Incremental Recording (multi-border) on DVDs and Disc/Track/Session-At-Once and Packet Recording (multi-border) on CDs", so you're good to go with DAO recording.

There's also a firmware update to version 1.19, but DVRFlash hasn't been updated to support the DVR-111D yet.

Even when my DVR-110D was listed by System Profiler as "Unsupported" (which happened when I had flashed it to the Pioneer firmware and was using 10.4.5 and below), I still had no problems burning from Toast or DVDSP. iTunes recognized it as well, but I don't use the other iApps so I don't know how they would have done with the drive. In the past, the iApps were the ones that seemed to need Patchburn, which was why I had suggested it. It shouldn't hurt anything, and the profile it creates can be removed once OS X has official support for the drive.
