The most pointless waste of space ever
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Then hide it.
etresoft is exactly right.
The way to hide it is to click the downward facing arrow (next to the plus sign) you're showing in your screen shot at the bottom.
Talk about a waste of space. The fact that you can see the container means you have the mailbox list showing which is another giant waste of space.
I have hidden it. It's still pointless.
I have today found out about the Window -> Activity window which is exactly the sort of thing I expext an Activity window to do 🙂
P.S. just to give more weight to my post, the window is empty most of the time and does not report activity such as downloading mail when I click Get Mail (which amazingly shows no activity anywhere) hence it being the waste of space. Just in case you were wondering 🙂

The only thing we are wondering is why is your waste of space still open?
Its not, I closed it as stated (since finding the real activity window!). But closing it does not make it any less of a pointless window which is what I am saying.
In fact everytime I start the Music app it shows the Cloud logo for about a minute then goes. Everytime. Never used to. So I think its as if its trying to sync, but not syncing, and tries again next time, or something like that. Because it never synced like this before everytime starting Music.
Does yours do that CSound?
No
It shows the mail activity, shows when send or receive email as email out or in at least my ...
Sorry I got some discussions mixed up CSound, you must be wondering what I was on about 😕
thebestplacehere - it shows when I send email I think, but not when I click Get Mail. Nothing hardly appears in the activity window.
I dont think we're going to see the main Activity window status in there, so I dont think there is a fix for that, I just wanted to say I think the activity pane as it stands now is not very active, unless I have a bug, which I doubt due to other posts on the subject.
So, since you're posting just to complain, in violation of the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use, and not actually asking for any help, doesn't that make this entire topic one big waste of space?
I didnt realise it was in violation of their terms of use to complain, I see a lot of complaints about things on here. But actually it was not a complaint, I was just saying that I think this window is a waste of space as it does not do anything hardly ever (constructive critisim - which is allowed?).
I am a bit surprised that people seem to be against my opinion without giving any argument against it. If it is useful for others could people let me know what it reports for them, because maybe I have a bug instead of a (most of the time) blank window showing no activity when I know there is activity due to mail being downloaded.
Thanks
Indeed.
(constructive critisim - which is allowed?)
Not here. These forums are for technical support questions. Criticism, constructive or not, is for:

I get a similar bar when receiving. It doesn't last long, and may not appear at all, if the message is very small, which most are.
