macbook air won't pair with bluetooth speakers

I too was having problems with BT pairing on all my devices after Lion update - here's how to fix- shut down your computer, power up and immediatly hold cmd option "r" and "p" (all at the same time) your screen will flash a few times but you want to keep holding the buttons through two cycles of start-up. Release the keys after the second start-up. Then re- pair your BT device and it will work.

I had to do this on my macbook air and mac mini. On the Mac Mini - the system restarted said it was recovering from internet, once it was done all my BT devices worked just fine.

ive figured out the answer..lol

the speaker only pairs one device at a time, so if youve already paired your iphone into it,it will not pair with your mac..

solution:

turn off the speaker first, once completely powered off, hold power button at least 5 secs so that it enter into pairing mode (meaning it will pair to a new device that is on range). now check on the macbook for available bluetooth devices, your BT speaker should now be visible, then connect..

Okay so i just had this problem and it's much simpler than previously stated

1) Go to your bluetooth settings

2) Scroll over the device that has been connected

3) Go to "Open Sound Preferences..."

An additional Tab should open up

4) Then, towards the top of the tab there should be three things you can click on "Sound Effects" "Output" and "Input"

5) Select the "Output"

6) Once you have selected that, there will be 2 options under Name "Internal Speaker....Built-In" and "The name of the device connected....Bluetooth"

7) Select the "Bluetooth" and Bam it worked for me

EDIT: Apologies, I see now this fix was mentioned earlier.

I had this problem and found a different solution, so wanted to share: Go into Sound preferences, choose Output, and click the name of the speaker, rather than the auto-selected option.

It seems obvious, sure, but a more intuitive system would be for the laptop to switch to the speaker output automatically, once you've connected via Bluetooth.

I had an issue where my Macbook Air and iHome said they were connected to each other, but when I played sound on my laptop, it would not go through the iHome. Scared to reset my computer, I decided to investigate further.

If you go to "Bluetooth" in your menu bar, then under devices slide your mouse over your desired device. A side menu should pop up with an option being "Open Sound Preferences." From there go to "Output" and click on your desired device!
I hope this works. It's pretty silly this process in necessary, though. I was able to connect yesterday without doing this process...

The standard setting prevents conflict with other Bluetooth devices. If you'd like better audio though, you can change the settings with this terminal command:

defaults write com.apple.BluetoothAudioAgent "Apple Bitpool Min (editable)" -int 40

This command works in other versions of OS X, but the Bluetooth Audio problems seem worse in Yosemite than previous versions. The number 40 is the sound quality setting. Note: a higher number could cause compatibility problems with other Bluetooth devices, so start at 40 and work your way up.

Turned off my iPhone (which was paired to BT), then turned on the BT headphones, holding down the button long enough for it to search for mac - that finally worked! I was starting to think my older model mac just wasn't going to pair to BT, but this seems so easy now! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

Hi all, I am having the same proplem with my Mac Air and a Muse mini blue tooth speaker.

I tried turning my computer off and then restart and held the, command button and the option and the (r) button and the (p) button down all at the same time and I did get flashes and it kept flashing as long as I held down the buttons. There were no restarts just flashes. I let it flash probably twenty five times and decided it wasnt the right road on this. Any one have any more ideas? Jim

I tried all this holding button things n no flash came on.. instead came a screen to reinstall the OS X Yosemite again? ***?

Problem not solved at all, n my macbook air still can't pair with my speaker.. supper annoying n frustrating to see my crappy iphone 4s do it n my super machine not! :-/

Has anyone found a solution? Brand new Kanto bluetooth speakers....new Macbook Air 2014 edition running latest Yosemite version out of the box. The speakers see all other bluetooth enabled devices...iPhone, Galaxy S3, iPad, Galaxy S3 tablet...just not this Macbook.

UPDATE...it seems a little patience goes a long way. "System...preferences...bluetooth..."...and move a little closer to the speakers lol. Working fine now. 🙂

Macbook Pro mid-2007. Same problem but with (e)scape SPBT927BK Bluetooth speaker. Closed all Bluetooth on near devices (in my case, iPhone 5c). Turned ON/off speaker...tried to reconnect Macbook.. and all connected. Thank you.
