iPhone 5, No service

Hi,

Recently upgraded to iPhone 5 from iPhone 4.

Now phone keeps getting stuck in 'No Service', where there clearly is signal. If I go in and out of airport mode it picks up the signal fine.

I have tried resetting network settings.

Can somebody let me know if this is either...

1 - a hardware issue and I should start chasing Apple for a replacement?

2 - a software issue that will get fixed in some future update?

Thanks in advance

Matt

Hello Matt, I have exactly the same problem, and it is driving me mad. Interested to know if you have any success. I have several tunnels on my way to and back from work on the train. Most times I have to use airplane mode to get a signal back.

Orange in UK keep claiming they know what the problem is and that they will fix it but no joy.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5, im on three network UK. When I loose signal it doesn't search and remains on No Service until I restart the phone. I spoke to apple store but the said contact the carrier as its their issue and only three are getting these symptoms. After a week or so I've now found this problem occurring with many more networks. I'd like to know if it's hardware as I'm not going to live with turning the phone off each time I loose signal.

One fix you can try, it's made things better for me, is to take out your sim and give it a wipe with a cloth and re insert into your phone. My phone now has this issue less since I've done this but it still happens.

Exactly the same issue here, iphone 5 on EE in uk, went into large supermarket today( never a signal in there!!) came out still no signal, drove home approx 15 mins still no signal, left my phone at home for at least 30 mins still no signal, put phone in and out of airplane mode and straight onto 4 bars... this needs to be sorted APPLE!!! its clearly not a 3 issue as its happening on EE too.

I am about to buy an Ipad but will go for another tablet unless apple sort this out quickly.

Hi there, I have an iPhone 5 and on the face of it, a very similar issue. When I turn the phone on it would search, then find EE in my case, show full bars, then slowly drop bars till the EE logo would disappear finaly showing No Service. This would take around 2 minutes. I've been tearing my hair out with this issue for almost 3 weeks but I think I may have accidentaly stumbled on the answer.

When your phone has signal, after a restart etc, go to Settings->General->Mobile Data->and switch Enable LTE to OFF.

See if that keeps your phone connected to the carrier, its worked for me.

It must either be an issue with IOS 6.0.1 or with the 4G network?

I'm not an expert and I'm not saying this is THE fix but in my case, I still have 4 bars after 2 hours so, fingers crossed.

Although I'd like both, I'd rather be able to use my phone than have super fast mobile data!

I have a solution. After two replacement phones, two networks, 4 SIM cards and many hours on the phone I have found a solution.

A Nexus 4 on Android

If we all move perhaps Apple will realise that people do like our phones to be connected and maybe fix for the iPhone 6!!!

I'm leaving Apple as their customer service is appalling; no point paying a premium price for bargain basement products and service!!
